Posted November 3, 200817 yr This is my first post to the forum, so be gentle :-)I'm planning a new system for my 97 Maxima SE. The last system I put together was about 18 years ago so the current crop of equipment is very new to me. I think I've made up my mind on 2 FI Q15's in sealed enclosures w/2 cuft each. Now I need to make up my mind on amplifiers. I've been reading a lot of good things about the Sundown amplifiers and I would like to get some honest opinions. This system will be in my daily driver. I'm into SQ so even though I like to play my music (rock) loud, it has to sound clean and crisp.I want to be able to drive the subs hard and still have headroom so I don't get any clipping. Based on that info, what do you think of having 2 SAZ-3000D's, one on each FI Q15 with the BP power option at 1 ohm? Would that be overkill? If so would I be better off without the BP option and using 2 SAZ-1500D's?As for the electrical, I'm going to install a Mechman 250amp alternator, Big 3 with 1/0 Stinger HPM cable and a Kinetic HC-2400 in the Trunk. I'll run the same 1/0 cable to the trunk for the amps, more than one if needed. I'll also replace the battery under the hood with a Kinetic, just not sure which size yet, haven't measured for clearance yet.Any suggestions will be appreciated,Thanks !!!
November 3, 200817 yr Author I would not suggest a 3000D on a Q with any option pack.Question answered !!!Thanks. With that said, using 2 SAZ-1500D's just get the Q15's without the BP?
November 3, 200817 yr I would go ahead and get the BP option so you will experience less power compression.
November 3, 200817 yr Author Yes on the BP option, got it. Just to make sure I'm on the right path, how does my plans for the electrical system look to support these amps?

November 3, 200817 yr Author Sweet, thanks for the help. Now I just have to bash my brain around and figure out what to do with the mids and highs !!!
November 3, 200817 yr Author The 2 way active concept is new to me, but I understand it as you have the Front 2 channels for the Highs and the Rear 2 channels for the mids? Am I even close?

Am I even close? correctfront 2 on tweeters and other 2 on midsit will take a great front stage to try and compete to a 3000 watt sub stagejust curious? why not a single 3000d over the 2 1500d's?
November 3, 200817 yr I have ran a single Q 18'' w/BP D1 in a 6 cube sealed enclosure before. It saw power ranging from 800rms rated @2ohms (series) to 1100rms (RF amp). Being I had the sub in a bigger size box, performed awesome with this range of power. Imo, one saz-3000d even at 2ohm, would be good between two Q subs. A saz3k at 1ohm might be too much though. Even a saz-1500 @1ohm powering both would be sufficient. an saz-3000d would be a sight to see though, and would always have enough power for you later if you decide to change your setup.
November 3, 200817 yr You're into SQ and you're looking at a 3kW amp?Just wondering, what exactly about less power hasn't worked for you?
November 3, 200817 yr Author just curious? why not a single 3000d over the 2 1500d's?I guess I've just never broken myself of the habit of hooking my subs up in seperate channels rather than hooking them up mono. Is there a benefit to doing so? Would the 3000d outperform the 2 1500d's? I'm not opposed to the idea at all.
November 3, 200817 yr Author You're into SQ and you're looking at a 3kW amp?Just wondering, what exactly about less power hasn't worked for you? Valid question, let me see if I can answer that adequately. I was much younger and less experienced when I built my last system and it just didn't have enough planning and/or funds put into it so even though it was loud, it just wasn't a finished product. The staging sucked and it really needed some midbass drivers. Anyway, fast foward to 18 years later. I've been a network engineer for the past 19 years so the funds issue isn't a problem this time around. I started fixing all the little problems that creep up on a car that hits 100k miles and I got around to upgrading all the power and ground wires since the old ones were old and corroded. I figured, wow, look at these nice new power cables, lets use them !!!So yea, I got the bug again. But this time I want to plan it out right. Decent electrical backbone, decent subs that will not take up the entire trunk (hence the sealed box) and enough power to drive them hard and clean. I also like the idea of having enough headroom to add more subs later without having to worry about dropping some coin on a bigger amp. Now I just have to setup a front stage to sound good with those subs.So I guess to put it in a nutshell, if I'm going to do it at all, I want to do it right, but also big enough to not leave me wanting more for a change.
November 3, 200817 yr Author it will take a great front stage to try and compete to a 3000 watt sub stageI've been looking at these: Hybrid Legatia L841-3 Pro Component SetIf I have that up front, do you think that will stand up to the 2 Q15's and a 3000D?

November 4, 200817 yr That may keep up if you give it power. Your better off to start searching for a DIY frontstage with high effiency drivers, you could pull it off easily if you want to do a 3-way frontstage.

I'll just have to brace it pretty good. I should be able to get at least 5 to 5.2 cuft after driver displacement in the trunk.
