Have any of you guys with the 12'' sent as little as 1000w to it in one of the smaller enclosures (1.5-1.8)? I'm thinking about trying to squeeze one in my truck and I only have a JL 1000/1 to power it.

honestly i think 1000/1 is probably plenty enough power to get one DAILY loud... especially in a nice ported enclosure... with less power you could go a little bigger and probably get more output but i think you would be happy.. i know i would.

Yeah it would be for daily but tuned to 36-38hz because the pair of 3'' aeros I have are only about 15''-16'' or so. It's going to be a struggle trying to get it in a reg cab ranger but I think I'm going to give it a try one of these days.

cant remember the x max.. not important.. lol.. but it displaces about .5cubes :) and yes you will be eatin the dash...

I think I'll just make the passenger eat the dash again. If I get a nightshade I'll just make the new box taller and make a few mounting rings to allow for more mounting depth.

Here's a link to some pics.....ported box is 1.6 for a 10'' Bl and the sealed is 1.4 for some iCONS.

Sorry for thread jacking by the way ;)

honestly you could use that box you have for the BL and be fine.. i dunno how much mounting depth you have but u may need a spacing ring..

I would have to do some fab work to make that happen. The Nightshade would be too deep to fit in that box. I would have to cut the existing mounting hole to be the same as the 2nd baffles cut, and then add a 1 or 2 spacer rings with the Nightshades cut ID to allow it to fit. I'm up for the task but I saw that you said the displacement was .5 cubes. That would bring my enclosure down to 1.1cubes :angry2: .

.5 cubes? wow thats freakin huge

Displacement isn't quite 1/2 cube - more like 0.20 cubes :)

Ok, that's more like it. I enjoy building boxes because I'm still new at it (truck style boxes are a pain in my ass though), so I'll probably build a new one for the Nightshade when I get one. I don't want to ruin the box for my Bl in case I can't fit the Nightshade in my truck the way I want it to.

If I build a crx style box with sub up port to side with an aeroport, how much of port can be in box? Would it make a difference if I put half in half out of box? Also where can I get a 4" aeroport?

Thank you very much. I know my wife hates it but my Christmas is getting expensive and I love it.

Does it make a difference if some of aeroport is in box? I don't have alot of room so I was planning on putting some of port in and some out of box. Since I need 16 or so inches of port.

Any amount of the port can be in the box or out of it. It will change the available volume you have for your woofer. The more port in the box you have, the less volume available and vice versa.

My question is that with the Nightshade being a fairly high displacement woofer, is a 4" port going to cut it? I am still learning about the whole port sizing business. I would figure that with the power you are going to be running with that 12, the port you want would be noisy as hell. Just a question on port sizing. I read somewhere that for high power applications and high displacement woofers using 12-16 sq. inches of port area per cubic foot of volume should be the rule of thumb. Please you SPL guru's chime in!!!

Would it be bad to have the box closer to 1.4 then 1.5 cubes for one 12 inch nightshade?
