Posted December 31, 200816 yr Hi everyone, been a loong time since i last posted, but here i am.....with my 1500D that likes to blow 80amp fuses at 2 ohms in my 98 jimmy. this problem happended months ago, but i just never really got around to fixing it.....running my mrd-m501 in the exact same setup without 1 problem.I tried emailing jacob a couple weeks ago about possibly sending it in to get looked at but i didnt hear back from him, so one day i said **** it and took it to an electronic repair shop who benched it and said "this thing has all kinds of problems, its pulling current like a mofo" or something along those lines.....said it almost blew his 15 amp breaker or something....i dunno...im not an electrician...buut i still havent heard back from him as im sure he was shut down for the holidays.now the amp worked perfect for like half a year...then one day just poof, blew a fuse on the highway...replaced it, power on the amp and it blows.....tried that like 3 or 4 times.....same thing.....swapped in the alpine and it works fine......no wiring issues, all 4awg, good ground, tons of ventilation......and this is the second 1500D thats done this to me......
December 31, 200816 yr If you didn't hear back from me I didn't get your e-mail - FYI. So if you don't hear anything from me within a day or two (excluding holidays) send e-mails again. There must be something unusual in your setup to have made two 1500s do the same thing. Extremely high idle current draw (enough to blow a fuse) is a sign something is wrong. I'll look at it again for you - or, even better, you could send it directly to dB-R so we can determine what is happening.
December 31, 200816 yr Author oh, sorry if i came off as ticked about you not responding....your 1 busy guy......i should have sent again.....but ill try to find out what this shop says asap, and i would definatly rather have your guys look at it than this shop.....where exactly would i have to send it......? anywhere in canada? im in saskatchewan...if it makes a difference
December 31, 200816 yr Unfortunately since you originally got that amp from the USA you need to get it sent to me or dB-R back in the USA.I believe my Canadian distributor has a repair partner, though - may be worth a look if you don't want to ship it back here.I'm not sure if I recall correctly... but was yours vibration related the first time ?
December 31, 200816 yr Author no, i dont think it was vibration related...it wasent even bolted to the box....so i doubt it....just randomly crapped out.....
December 31, 200816 yr Send it off to Chris @ dB-R for a look see:ATTN: ChrisdB-r Electronics11861 Schmidt RdWaller, TX 77484 Include your original invoice and also a note for Chris that it is for warranty.
January 1, 200916 yr Author original invoice? bought the 1st one used off a guy that i belive is a member.....rob something.....he was selling 4.....sent that 1 in for repair and just got a new one back.....dont think it came with paper work....though i shall check....
January 1, 200916 yr Author well i just checked the box and theres no paper work.....but there is a swanky sundown logo i forgot about
January 2, 200916 yr well i just checked the box and theres no paper work.....but there is a swanky sundown logo i forgot about Well send a note with your name, address, etc so Chris can contact me. I may have a record of it somewhere that I can reference.

January 3, 200916 yr This is what makes the Sundown name stand out above so many other companies. No other owner is going to step up like this to try and help a customer.
January 7, 200916 yr Is it really that strange to blow an 80 amp fuse with a 1500 watt amp? how big of wire are you running?
January 7, 200916 yr Hi everyone, been a loong time since i last posted, but here i am.....with my 1500D that likes to blow 80amp fuses at 2 ohms in my 98 jimmy. this problem happended months ago, but i just never really got around to fixing it.....running my mrd-m501 in the exact same setup without 1 problem.I tried emailing jacob a couple weeks ago about possibly sending it in to get looked at but i didnt hear back from him, so one day i said **** it and took it to an electronic repair shop who benched it and said "this thing has all kinds of problems, its pulling current like a mofo" or something along those lines.....said it almost blew his 15 amp breaker or something....i dunno...im not an electrician...buut i still havent heard back from him as im sure he was shut down for the holidays.now the amp worked perfect for like half a year...then one day just poof, blew a fuse on the highway...replaced it, power on the amp and it blows.....tried that like 3 or 4 times.....same thing.....swapped in the alpine and it works fine......no wiring issues, all 4awg, good ground, tons of ventilation......and this is the second 1500D thats done this to me......I would hope that it would almost blow a 15 amp breaker and that guy dosent sound very knowlegable anyways
January 7, 200916 yr Author i have 4awg power and ground....just picked it up from him yesterday.....he didnt touch it, said they didnt even open it up so ill get it sent to dB-r asap
January 8, 200916 yr Author yep, ive been on the hunt for local 1/0 but it seems hard to find.....and yes jacob i will definatly remember the note! thanks again! even though you hear it 100 times a month
January 10, 200916 yr Would not be strange for it to blow an 80 amp fused if it was cranked up loud, even at 2 ohms I don't really think... may still blow an 80 if you got little impedance rise. WOULD be strange to blow the fuse when you turn the amp on... should in no-way blow an 80 amp fuse during startup.... Shouldn't even blow a 20-30 amp unless it was seriously cold when you started it... Send it in, we will determine the cause of your woes....
