Update: IM SUCH AN IDIOT! i know whats wrong with my subwoofer... i had it wired down to .5ohm, i didn't realize i got a 1 ohm coil each, so my hifonics is wired down to .5 ohms and didn't kill it.

shows the resilience of a hifonics brutus.

How do you figure wiring it to .5 ohms made the sub have scratching sounds?

mm....no, it wouldn't clip inherently. It will still provide the same amount of power (or more) than at 1 ohm without clipping. It would piss it off and make the amp blow sooner, yeah.

Try wiring the sub to 2 ohms and see if the scratching noise is still there.

Yeah running a hifonics at a hlf ohm, is not a good thing. Sounds like you need to get a .5 stable amp, or something at 2 ohms. Hifonics amps are decent budget amps, thats what I have for now. Car Audio can be hard to troubleshoot sometimes, but never blame the maker until you know its not your fault. And if you sent it in for a recone, 99% of the time they can tell if its abuse.
