Im looking at buying an 18" nightshade, it is brand new, re-coned from Sundown. but the seller doesnt recall whether it has the upgrades done to it, or if its an original stock model. is there any way to physically tell the difference? this will be running of a sundown 3000, so i would like to have the upgrades that can handle the power better.

thanks,

Cody

As far as I know there is no physical difference that you can see from the outside. It is a longer coil and some extra cooling. When was it purchased? Maybe Jake will chime in too.

I believe he started in early December.

it depends whos it was Ive got a pair of much older nightshade 18s that are upgraded the motors are from the very first shipment

The other question is: what kind of deal are you getting on it? If you are getting it real cheap, just buy a re-cone with the upgrades that you require. I am sure Jacob will help you with this.

Really they're aren't any original NightShade 18"s. What we now refer to as the "OG" original NightShades only came in 12s and 15s. All the Nightshade 18s have been built in-house at Sundown Audio and have received the (now standard) longer coil and cooling feature. Maybe Jacob built a few of the very first ones without but I don't think so. I know he built a few for some guys real early on but my pair were one of the first built when 18" baskets came in stock and they received both the long coil and cooling.

I had my Nighshade 12's upgraded in August, so it was way sooner than December.

You had them upgraded. I'm talking about when the longer coil and cooling became "stock".

ok, thanks for all the responses. as far as it being a good deal, its under $400 shipped, hasnt been powered since it was re-coned. so, it sounds like a pretty good deal considering its "brand new"

either way, ill take it easy on it w/ the sundown 3000, then probably upgrade to the NS-X when it comes out and let all hell loose on it :D
