I have 2 fi Q 15's (w/ BP Power) in a sealed enclosure (seperate chambers) in a 2000 dodge dakota. Each chamber is 2.5 cu.ft after all displacment. I have my gain set on my amp (AQ2200D) to 4 V the same as the output of my head unit (Pioneer AVH-P5050DVD). My bass boss is all the way down, and so is my subsonic filter. The max vol. on this unit is 40 but i usually listen to my music with the vol. set to about 24-26. I just installed the system about three days ago so am still "breaking in the subs." On my way to work lastnight, i could smell whats seemed to be something buring. All my bass levels are set to either 0 or normal. Is there any reason for this to happen. I know sometimes after installing new subs, you can detect a smell coming from the subs, usually the glue, etc. from the manufacturing process, but i am not sure what is going on. Can anyone give me some insight on what i may need to double check? By the way these subs are amazing, got to love FI!!!!! Any helpful input is welcome. Thanks

too much power probably. you can't just set the amp to 4v because that's the HU's voltage, you have to set your gains properly.

Many times the numbers printed on the amp are just estimates. Too many tolerances there to assume they are correct.

You also don't know if your headunit can actually output more than 4 volts. . .

If you smelled the coils, they were getting the power ;)

Sometimes amps put out a clipped or dirty signal at low voltage. I know it seems silly, but running a system at 13-14v is a lot better for the speakers as well as the amps. Most people try to push their systems too hard and they drop to around 12v and the amplifier loses all cleanliness.

Also, they did you get BP power then do sep. chamber sealed? Your box design is more for SQ, even a shared chamber would increase output. Sounds to me like you would want a big ported box.

M5, I dunno man I had two Q15's with BP power as well, and was doing high 140's during bass race below 40hz out of a trunk. Also, Frankie Rio ran Q's for a long time in his ride as well hitting 160's so pretty sure these woofers can dish out the SPL as well. I never had a problem with mine and now they are on their way to another lucky recipient.

I ran a 3kw comp. amp on them getting every bit of 1500 a piece.

I know that you say that the amp output is just an estimate, but i got the BP Power option which should add 200-500 watts to each woofer. At a min. thats 2400 watts rms (both subs) on a 2200 watts rms amp (AQ2200D). I used a volt meter and set the gain an the bass boost knob doesnt show that i am clipping. I was always told, even here on this forum that u should match your HU output. If thats not right, then how do i set my gain? These subs are SQ subs, but they do deliver when it comes down to SPL, cant complain in that area. Is there any other reason for this happening???

I notice tonight that my volt gauge in my truck drops all the way down while the bass hits and return when it stops. Although this happens, the amp does not shut off or go into protect. I know that ill have to add another battery but will this hurt the amp or the subs. If there was not enough power for the amp, i thought that the amp would shut off. Why didnt this happen? This may have been the answer to the problem i asked about earlier also. What do you guys think?
