i just got my hands on a RL-i10 subwoofer. the RMS on the sub is 200 watts - 500 watts per coil @ 4 ohm (DVC). the amp im using is a kicker 1000.1 with a RMS rating of 1000 watts @ 2ohm. kicker amps normally peak about 2.5 times the RMS rating. so i figured this would be a good matching sub amp combo. the box im running it a sealed box @.65 CF. the bass knobs is set @50% and the gain is set @ 25% and the crossover is set @ 200hz on the amp and H.U. but if i turn it up too 25 or over it destorts really box unless i turn the gain down to 25%. i thought with the amp i have i would be able to run it a 50% gain which i figured would be about 1200-1400 watts or 600-700 per coil. thanks guys.

That is really too much power for the RL-i.

Gain at 50% doesn't mean the power output is 50% of the rated output. Also, peak ratings are useless.

Turn the bass boost to off. Then set your gains correctly.

bass boost @ zero out of 18. the sub hits hard dont get me wrong. the lower end of the volume sounds great and the sound quality is awsome. but at the higher volumes it drops off. i figured it could handle more power than it is getting especially the DVC model. maybe i should build a different box and go ported? im now also thinking of selling the amp for the kicker 750.1 model.

Just cause you got the DVC model doesn't mean it will handle twice the power. The DVC is for wiring options. Did you think of wiring it differently?

the amp is 2 ohm stable and the sub is wired to 2 ohm. + coil to + coil, then to the + on the amp. - coil to -coil, then to the - on the amp.

Wire it to 8 ohms, it should be about 250 watts.

ill try it and see how it sounds.

wired it from 2 ohm load to a 8 ohm load and now i am impressed by the sub. no i have the gain @ 80% and the bass knob @50% and bass boost still at 0%. set the crossover back to 50hz on the H.U. and amp. now i can feel the bass and found a few leaks in the box. going to clean p the wires and seal it all up with RTV. this 10 sounds better than my 2 12s i had. doesnt drop as long but SQ is better. thanks guys.

i think it sound great now. ive always ran sealed boxes. i like ported cuz they drop low but they are as tight and crisp. i like SQ over SLP anyday. like i said, it sound better than my 2 kicker CVT 12s i had. which is good for a 10.

If I were you I would try to get my hands on another RL-i10", they are phenomenal little subs

i have a regular cab ranger. thats why i only went with 1 10. i would have to go fiberglass and do a center console to get thecorrect air space to run 2. maybe in a year or so ill buy another and do it but 1 it good for now. what are you running?

Now that you are running (theoretically) 250w, you could put it in a bigger sealed box

I agree with Adrian, if you want to rebuild try a larger sealed box.

some songs i have to hit the bass knob and turn it down a tad cut you hear a flapping\ vibrating noise. goes away if i turn it down. is that because the maginet is too close to the back? ive never made a wedge box, ive always ran a square or rectangle and i always run sealed. i have thought aboutgoing ported. i would need some help with that if someone has suggestions on it.

Could very well be that you are bottoming out the sub. Too much power for the enclosure it is in. Going bigger isn't going to help. Cut down a little on the gain, even though it will not be as loud, you won't rip the sub apart.

are you sure you don't have that turned around? Sealed box size is always smaller than ported. How close is the motor to the back wall of the enclosure?

i would say 3\4 of an inch at most.

no, soundsplinter RL-i8s and RL-i10s are different. the sealed is bigger. look at the site.
