May 4, 200916 yr depends on materials...motor necessarily is not the most valuable. Edited May 4, 200916 yr by aznboi3644
May 4, 200916 yr the technology that it incorporates that sets it apart from the rest...haha idk i dont think anything else on a sub is really THAT expensive...pound for pound though, if you've got a copper coil...the VC. lol
May 4, 200916 yr what a BS thread, but to go with the flow ill have to say the motor because tooling it from a block of metal aint cheap. The technology behind it and all the research might be worth more in some cases....then again the loudspeaker design didnt change much over the past 50 40 years
May 4, 200916 yr Whats the most valuable part of a subwoofer besides the magnet?does anyone read? loland i second stealths request (as i head back to hca)and "The technology behind it and all the research might be worth more in some cases....then again the loudspeaker design didnt change much over the past 50 40 years" sure speakers work the same way, but are you seriously trying to say that there's little to no research and testing that goes into speakers?
May 4, 200916 yr If by "magnet" you imply the whole motor and not just the actual magnet, I'd say the second most is the coil and what kind of configuration its in. Because really the motor and coil have to interact correctly to get desired results. You can't have an awesome coil but bad motor mated to it and have an awesome sub, and vice versa.

May 5, 200916 yr To me the cone and coil are up there. Need to balance weight and rigidity on the cone. The coil needs to be light yet needs to handle large amounts of power and and have a high thermal capacity. Don't get me wrong motors are very important as well but i think in all reality its a big balancing act to make everything work together.
May 5, 200916 yr well, how much do recones typically cost for subs?that should give you an idea of how much the company values those parts....
May 5, 200916 yr well, how much do recones typically cost for subs?that should give you an idea of how much the company values those parts....I don't like you.

May 5, 200916 yr I'll also say the motor... True that subwoofer haven't changed in the past 40 years HOWEVER: Focal seems to be part of the new generation of subs http://www.grande-utopia-em.com/en/technologies/em.php
May 6, 200916 yr For me the softparts are everybit as important as the motor. You can have serious driving force but if the softparts shred it does you no good.
