Posted May 15, 200916 yr What's the optimal box volume and port area for Xcon 18". I plan on going for 6cft net cause space in kinda tight.
May 15, 200916 yr Author Rule of thumb is 14-16 sq inches of port area per cuft of boxHow many sguare inches would you go with? need a rough guestimated.
May 15, 200916 yr I have always done a different approach with this. In the past I did the 15 per cube but found some craziness in that they got monsterously huge. I developed a fromula that has (as far as the enclosure program I use) worked well at keeping the port noise down. I take the driver or drivers in the chambers' displacement (cone movement, not the physical) and take one third of that for area. It shows great results and works around the drivers that you use to prevent more port than the driver will need. I am curious if anyone else has tried this? So far the few enclosures I have built in the past have sounded good and the ports have been utterly quiet. In this case for the Xmax right at 76 sq. inches (based on the numbers of 1210 sqcm and xmax of 31mm= 187.55 sqin. sd and 1.22 in of xmax) No idea on mechanical max but I would guess you won't be pushing to that extreme will you?
