Posted July 6, 200916 yr for some reason the amp for my subs is getting incredibly hot . I dont understand why though as the gains were set correctly and no bass boost has been engaged. I found out that the plexi glass that i had placed over the amp was making things worse so i took that off ... it is still getting pretty hot however ... i do not know if it is getting adiquate cooling as it is under a false floor but because i took the plexi off it over 3/4s of the amp is revealed ... my 4 channel amp seems to stay cool but the mono is getting hot ... they are both power series amps (t8004 and t40001bd) ... what is the remedy and is there any ways to keep the amp cool?
July 6, 200916 yr what are you running the mono amp at? 0.5ohm? also to keep it cool have you tried some 120mm fans? to blow across the amp?
July 6, 200916 yr check to see what ohm load you are running your speakers at, what subs do you have? do you have a good electrical system backing up this power?
July 7, 200916 yr Author its at 1 ohm, i havent bought n e fans for it yet but i am going to soon, my alt from excessive amperage is garbage so i bought a 260 from iraggi ... if i dont have my foot on the gas it will go into protect because of voltage drops into the low 10s ... the charging system shouldnt cause the amp to get hot like that tho right?
July 7, 200916 yr well if you starve the amp for power it will work harder it might get hot but i am no expert and i could be dead wrong on that point.
July 7, 200916 yr sounds like a big power problem to me. low voltage and amps.. will make you run hot. fast,... add more cells.

July 7, 200916 yr for it to drop in the 10s, sounds like u have NO batts in the rear...I run over 7kw worth of amps in my ride and i only have a D3100 and a D5100 and a 250 mechman alt and i have no voltage issues whatsoever. Before i put the batts in, i had mad voltage problems, even with it accelerated, but extremely bad at idle.

July 7, 200916 yr Author get cells or kill what ever alt you put in..... IMO YOU fried your last alt.how would i fry my alternator? i just put it in and right out of the box without the huge amp it was putting out nothing
July 7, 200916 yr just cuz you have any ho alternator does not mean that you can slack on batteries, you need to put some batteries back their to make power for that 4000+ rms amplifier
July 8, 200916 yr Author is it possible that my amp is getting hot because of noise in my system? the pico fuse in my pioneer head unit blew and now i have serious engine noise. Since the pico fuse broke the h/u tries to seek ground through the rcas thus getting some funky noises. the subs play a constant humming with equal output at all volumes including 0 because of this. could this be why the amp is getting hot?
July 8, 200916 yr is that why pioneer decks suck due to a blowing pico fuse blowing mysteriesly? that is why my h/u is giving me issues lol!! POS poineer junk
July 8, 200916 yr Author i did and it is not as bad but i still get it time to time and when i hit a bump. could this be a reason why my amp is getting hot though? it is sending a low freq to my amp thus driving my subs continuously

POS poineer junki found out after that most of their decks you need to ground to the chasis and not this harness ... if u ground to the harness they will blow
July 8, 200916 yr Author i am going to do a test today. my dad is vp of sales at fluke networks so i have all the test equipment i need. i have reason to believe that my head unit is the problem. what i am going to do is do a 10 min test with the head unit at a volume of 0 and see what the temperature is using a special infared gun that measures the temperature of objects. I will wait until the amp goes back to room temperature and then do another 10 min test with my ipod connected to the existing rcas at a volume of 0. if the temperature is substantially greater on the head unit source i will know the culprit. if not then i will do another 10 min test using the ipod with external rcas and measure the temperature. if it is substancially less then the rcas and/or head unit are bad. if nothing changes then it is back to the drawing board =(

July 8, 200916 yr Author probably not ... small stuff they sell in high quantites and the only reason i have everything at my house is so he could show customers ... i can probably get you a $10,000 unit that will find shorts all the shorts in your car using heat vision for like $5,000 lol ... too bad i dont have one of those lying around =(
July 8, 200916 yr Author i have both my amps (t40001bd and t8004) grounded using a distrobution block ... it goes from two 0 gauge to a single 0 gauge ... the grounds are roughly 5 ft long each and they connect into the single 0 which is a little less than a foot ... is this alright?

POS poineer junki found out after that most of their decks you need to ground to the chasis and not this harness ... if u ground to the harness they will blowIf that was the case, they'd have eliminated the ground wire on the harness. Do a continuity check and you'll find the same potential across the harness wire and the chassis. They are common throughout the circuit board.
