Hello…my name is Dobson and I am a mechanic in the army…currently doing a tour in Iraq…with a good understanding of how to do installs…I am writing this to ensure that I have touched on every major aspect of my new install for my truck…I will try to be a descriptive as possible…so here goes nothing…I have a Chevy Avalanche…I will use the system for daily use and compete to see what it will do…my sub box will be single chamber and will take the place of my mid gate…I want to get two Fi BTL 18s…dual one ohm…subs will be wired in series to get two ohms from each sub…I will wire the subs together in parallel to equal one ohm…the amp I want is a Rockford Fosgate T40001 BD…wired to one ohm…the sub box is going to be 47 x 21 x 37 to give me 21.13 cubic feet exterior volume…interior volume using ¾ MDF will put it at 18.22…after port…subs…and bracing…the interior volume will be 14.4…the port will be 204 ¾ square inches…interior dimensions will be 10 ½ x 19 ½ x 27 ¼ …tuned to 32 hertz…bracing will go from left to right…one every ten inches…braces will have one solid rectangles cut in them two inches from the edge…I will have two pieces of wood on the back wall for bracing…extending out the dimensions to 37.75 inches…the baffle board will be tripled up…the subs will be drilled into two baffles and the third will be cut to the external dimensions of the sub and have the subs sitting flush…I will line the meeting edges with silicone and the whole interior of the box coved in resin…I have a Audiobahn 6004v amp for my highs and mids…my electrical system will consist of three alternators…one 105 amps alternator (stock) charging the two red tops under the hood which runs the truck accessories…two 275 amp alternators are used to charge up the two Kinetik HC 2400s to power the amps…all wires associated with the charging system will be Stinger 1/0 gauge and RCA cables will be Stinger as will as all battery terminals…I have the batteries under the hood grounded to my engine…frame and body…the Kinetiks will be grounded to the body and frame (if need be)…all cables will have Stinger 1/0 gauge connectors on them and will be soldered…(I hate it when one some how pops off the connector)and for the cherry on top I want to get the new Kenwood navigation unit DNX 9140 with 5 volt output…I need to drive from Alaska to New York when I get back…what I am not sure of right now is if I am going to need a external EQ…if so…I will be at a lost of how to set all the EQs and crossovers…the amps have a some type of EQ and crossover…so does the head unit…with a external EQ…if needed…???what do I set the amps and head unit EQ and crossover at…???...sorry about the long drawn out write up but if I am going to put this much money into this system I wanted to make sure that I am doing everything right…if I have left out anything…or messed up on what I am doing…please feel free to correct me so I can get on track…

How do you all feel about this set up…I am a straight bass head…I want bass but SQ does matter…for the price and what I have heard…Fi is exactly what I am looking for…I like the fact that no one I know have even heard of them…just adds to the heart break when I pull up to someone and I am louder and they have never even heard of the subs I have…I know that no one can really answer this question but I have to ask…what will a set up like this hit…???...the loudest I have done is 150 with two MTX 9500 15 and the MTX amp that puts out 3750 watts…not sure what model it is…

155 is far harder to get due to a vehicles failure rate. It can be done but i think its gonna take a good deal more than 4kw.

it took my buddy a Kinetik hc1800, (3)hc2400, 350amp altenator, 2 Pca2000d strapped at .7 ohms on one Fi BTL to get a 153 in a Blazer. Good luck man.

MAN...you all are hurting my feelings...but I understand...I am not trying to cross the line of a daily driver and a SPL set up...I was thinking of dropping to a US AMPS AX3200DE amps that put out 3500 per sub...but I was wanting to sell them since I have placed the order for the Rockford Fosgate T40001 BD...what would I need to do to get to 155???...and I have heard good things from POWERMASTER batteries...are they better then Kinetiks???

Yes, the XS Power batteries are much better than the Kinetiks. Also try another T4k amp and you'll have a much better shot at even breaking a 150. I've seen tons of guys running 2 18's with over 3K watts and not even break 150's. The correct enclosure is going to be key for you to do such high numbers in your vehicle. Efficiency is going to be a great determining factor to how well your subs respond off less power. I reccomend aeroports or precision ports since they offer much more efficiency than a slot port does. Also airspace is going to make a difference. If you add another amp you will need to cut down on some of the airspace in the box to help the woofers have some control. You don't want 8K on a pair of subs in too big of a box cuase the cones will come flying off if your not careful. Also you will need to find the resonant frequency of your vehicle and use that to your benefit when tuning the enclosure. There are too many things to list right now, but it will be a long uphill battle that you'll probably never be satisfied with. I honestly don't see 155's with the equiptment you listed in a daily setup unless maybe you had a Crx.

You are gonna have to wire both 18s in parallel down to 0.25ohm but before u do, u must test impedance rise and make sure that the note to burp at is gonna rise over 1 ohm before paralleling that low.

You are not only gonna have to sound deaden everything but also spray foam in all the sides as well to prevent flexing...

Seal all factory seals around car. This includes all glass, doors, etc... When i say seal, this can be temporary only for comp type of seal but it must be done.

You will need a human bracing team.

build ur box using multiple runs in all directions with 3\4" allthread. Weld all points to the center of the box.

Seal off your vehicle as much as possible to prevent unwanted volume being displaced inside.

WOW...I am not going to lie...I never thought that I would have to do all that to get the number that I wanted...I picked the number for this very reason...I know that it is not easy to get...but wow...I think I should try this on a car that I do not drive on a daily...

if I do two T40001 amps...what size box should I make...I am not use to going this deep...I usally ask the company of the subs that I brought and they send me a box size to make and I run with it...thats about all...but I like this though...it is harder...not just throwing some stuff together and there you go...

for people like you who want to hit a number that typicallydoesnt happen all the time requires knowledge on whatexactly to expect to do, test and look for when trying toachieve an above-average goal.another tip is to dedicate a few weeks like i am about to doand test different port areas and tuning...when u finally find the right note to peak at, then it's timeto start testing different port areas.Think of a port as an exhaust pipe.too small of a port and you will choke and cause too muchback pressure(port turbulance) resulting in loss of SPL.too much port area and you will not have enough backpressure which can lose horsepower(big hole in the boxwith too low port velocity. Can also cause a sub to unload whichis dangerous to the suspension system.)So you gotta find just the right port area as well.Remember- once you find it and roll with it, if you ever addmore power, you will start choking your new potential!

then a few plans......(most will be failures)

Like most have suggested above, it takes a lot of tinkering

and the right equipment to get over 150db.

Not saying it's impossible, just hard to do.

Keeping the system from becoming a one note wonder is a task in itself.

If it's going to be a daily driver system,

then IMO 155+ is going to take more than what you've stated.

I don't think you should be chasing high numbers, if you want to you could with that equipment. You could tune MUCH higher and probably make it. But what you have here is a great ground pounder and I think you would like that much more then something that burps 155+ at 70 hz.

I agree i think you would be more happy with a strong ground pounder. I wouldn't doubt you could make a strong 150 either.
