This is the first time I've used a remote gain, so sorry if I'm just being stupid.

Anyway, I just got it installed and have my gain on the amp set about half way. Now every time I start to turn the remote gain, I get a pop from my subs. Why is this happening? Is it my ground? If so, I'm not sure how I could make it any better. The ground is secured to the chasis and I sandpaper'd the area where the ground makes contact. I'm also using brass screws/bolts to secure it. I'm just a little confused here.

you mean pop as in amp going in protect or they seem to bottom out ??? are you seeing too much excursion

It's the subs. The pop is like they hit real quick just once every time I move the knob a notch. It happens wether I'm playing music or not. Without the gain remote everything is fine. I only have a problem when adjusting with the remote.

it might be the remote that is bad

if you have the stereo to control subwoofer level just lower it when ever you dont want to have a heavy bass coming out.

that is the simplest thing but you could try another remote or check if the remote cable got caught and made damage on the inside

I don't have another remote to test it with unfortunately. The remote I got came brand new from a SAE-1000D. I guess the wire or something is bad. I wonder if I can get a replacement?

On a side note, I see your from SA. I'd love to hear those BLs sometime if you have some spare time. Tried to PM you but it's not letting me send you a message.

I can't message you, so you will have to send me a PM. I'll give you my number and we can meet up wherever.

Anyone else have ideas? Or is it most likely a bad remote?

I would guess a bad remote. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? Maybe there's just a loose connection or something. Also retrace the wire's length throughout your car, make sure you didn't accidentally screw a panel down into it and cut the cord a little.

I tried unplugging and replugging it in a few times when it was first happening with no success. I just got done retracing the wire and it's in perfect condition. It would be cool to get a replacement but I'm not really counting on it. I also think I remember seeing a thread not to long ago that Sundown was out of the remotes. Can I use a remote from a different amp? I think have my old Cadence remote laying around. I never used it since it controlled the bass boost on the Cadence amp.

Could be the remote gain knob circuit board has a crack or a loose connection. Double check your connection at the knob itself.
