Posted August 29, 200916 yr How big of a difference in SPL and SQ do you think there would be between a 15" and a 12" Fi Q. Would be in a ported box built to recommended dimensions. Oh, and powered by a Kicker zx1500.1 at 4 ohms for around 850 RMS.
August 29, 200916 yr The 15 would probably have the spl advantage due to cone area. Why are you buying a Q if you worried about spl? You might want to look at the Fi BL
August 29, 200916 yr Author From what I've gathered, the Q should get pretty loud while maintaing SQ. That's what I'm going for. I want LOUD but not muddy (like my L5s, they're garbage). I'm going for a great SQ sub that also gets loud. In that order of importance.Would you say a Q would be a good fit?I'd love an IDMax or an RE XXX but I don't think I want to spend that much on another setup. Edited August 29, 200916 yr by CW092
August 30, 200916 yr Author The Q is NOT for you. Then what would you suggest? And the fronstage is not stock, they're infinitys running on a factory amp that's a POS. I'm not worried about mids and highs,
August 30, 200916 yr go with a bl and run it at the full 1500 watts. it will get loud and sound alot better than some L5s

August 30, 200916 yr Author Okay, then back to my original question. 12 or 15? They both claim the same power handling, what's the actual handling on each? And I understand more cone space is more SPL but would that mean losing some SQ? How big of a difference would you think there would be?And running at the full 1500 watts is actually 1687 RMS at 2 ohms on my amp.

You buy a subwoofer biased on your size requirements, not which size cone you think will sound better.
August 30, 200916 yr They have the same power handling. A larger cone does not increase this. The 15 should be able to go a touch lower but otherwise they should sound about the same.
August 30, 200916 yr Author I was just wondering if there are any main differences in sound between the two.I'm just not familiar with Fi subs. I'm not asking basic car audio questions about what an ohm is or anything of that nature. I just wanted to hear from someone who owns a 12 or a 15 BL and what they suggest. August 30, 200916 yr if you want to be happy and you can fit a 15" bl ported, then do it, if you can't....then fit a 12that's why they come in different sizes, like condoms....one isn't "better" if there was a huge difference in sound Fi would advertise that, it'd be a great selling point. Alternatively, if one is larger and has larger box requirements then they'd probably just advertise that.

I was concerned because I highly doubt a ported box for a 15" BL is fitting into my trunk haha
August 31, 200916 yr You're not concerned about mids and highs, but you want sound quality out of a sub? He He. .
