What is the frequency response range of the 18" BTL daily use? also the 18" BL and 18" Q frequency response

  • Author

Every box will have a different curve. Why do you want to know?

just wanted to make sure its capable of going down to 20hz and below since i listen to alot of shit that went well below what my old cvr's could do. I only asked because i could'nt find the frequency response for fi anywhere

Also, is the diablo audio HF2500.1 a good choice for powering an 18" BTL? Are there other amps that will fully power it better or for cheaper? How about the HF1000.1 for a BL or a Q?

In the proper enclosure it will be safe down to 20hz.

what do you listen to because you cant really hear anything under 20hz.

In fact you probably can't even hear 20. Much better to cite what you listen to and then ask for box recommendations, the sub will play only what the box will allow.

Make sure you have an adjustable subsonic filter as well that is set 2-3Hz below the tuning of the enclosure...otherwise you'll be here asking "WHY DID MY SUB BREAK YOUR SUBS SUCK"

:)

im pretty new to this, im going to have to research how to tune a box and such. also i listen to just about anything: metal, psychedelic, hardcore rap, stoner rap, drum and bass, chillout, reggae, dub, electronica, etc.

None of that stuff goes down to 20 Hz.

I meant as in you only listen to pop. Far from "everything" was the comment. Nevermind.

i just listed what id be listening to most on the sub, obviously stating that i like classical is completely irrelevent.. anyways instead of arguing over what music i may or may not listen to can somebody please answer my question about the amp? also to the people who say nothing goes down to 20hz.. seriously? even stuff like enya and bjork go down into the subsonic..

Amusingly primarily classical goes below 20hz.

Are you SURE you need down to 20hz? I tune that low for movies and I promise you'll need to download "chopped and screwed" songs to get even into the 30's. Pipe organ music will have sub-harmonics down as low as 8hz.

Do yourself a favor and before you decide on 20hz get some test tones and listen to them on a capable system and you might be surprised that what you think is 20 is more like 35-40.

Almost any 18" sub will do it (look for one with high x-max and low fs as an 18 with low x-max and high fs is designed for 50hz farts). Large box tuned low will get you there (or large sealed or IB).

For an amp, doubling power is only 2.6db gain in a perfect world so if you're up in the 1000-1500W range, don't sweat a couple hundred "rated" watts like it'll make much difference. Shoot for something that is known to be reliable that you can get from a company with good customer support. PLENTY of options out there for large mono-blocks.

An 8" will play the same thing as an 18".

While true for "normal" listening, when you tune in the trenches this isn't really the case. In particular at volume as you will run out of cone. 8's perhaps but not an 8.
