Posted September 18, 200915 yr My friend wants an 18 in his jeep and I wanted to know how do the 2 of there 18" subs compare.. He wants a good sub for cheap so I told him Mach 5 was the way to go.
September 19, 200915 yr Both great subs with very different applications. What are your friends goals, budget, space etc...
September 19, 200915 yr Author The guy really doesn't know much about car audio, I'm sure he has no desire for sq he just wants to move air and show off and what not. He just wants to be loud but he doesn't have a lot of money. He wants to stay in the 200-250 area for subs. It's going in a 98jeep grand cherokee.
September 19, 200915 yr Does he have an amp? How big can the box be? What sort of music does he listen to....Really need info to appropriately help. If you aren't sure what we need, please read the links in my sig
September 19, 200915 yr Author Well I'm sure I can make at least an 8 cuft box and still and still have room for an amp and battery. I told him to get a audioque 1200d? That sound good for either one of these subs?He mostly listens to rap and a little bit of rock.
September 19, 200915 yr Admin Honestly, the MJ-18M is a very good driver, and he could save more money with a smaller amplifier. Something around 400 - 700 watts at 4 ohm mono, for the amplifier. The MJ-18M can thrive in a smaller then average box and will sound very clean. We could put a new combo up on the SSA shop with a Sundown SAX-125.2 and a Mach5 MJ-18M, or maybe an SAZ-1000D and IXL 18.2.2.
September 20, 200915 yr Author Damn that sounds really good denim. And I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one interested in that deal. Hmm well I think I AM A go ahead and tell him about the mj18m and sax 125.2. But will that combo work really well together? The mj18 says 700 watts rms and the 125.2 puts out 250? Or more?

September 20, 200915 yr Admin The 125.2 is ratted at 400 x 1 @ 4 ohm, but has been easily doing 500 watts+. Heck, the prior version 100.2 with a slightly smaller output potential, was doing 450 watts @ 8ohm mono, so think about what the stronger version will do at 4 ohms. It will not be a SPL competition winning set up, but for the money, it can do quite well. The IXL with a 1000 watt amp, in theory should be louder all things considered, but if budget is a major factor, and an 18" driver is a must, it is hard to beat the MJ-18M.
September 21, 200915 yr Admin $390 + Shipping. If interested, we will put a combo deal up on the SSA Store.
September 21, 200915 yr Author That sounds really good I'll tell him to really consider it and another thing is that guy from audibel customs still doing the free box give away? If so I'm interested in that too ha I just got a 15" BTL not too long ago...
