okay, Ive got a 2002 mercury cougar, and im wiring up my first setup (for this car at least) usually i go through the firewall with the power cable, however ive never wired anything so big. I need either a good spot in the firewall for this car specifically, if anyone knows, or an alternative way to run the wire? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Setup is going to be 12" FI BTL fully loaded, hifonics bxi2610d, stock batt and all for now and the 0/1 gauge wires. i'm geeked but this whole power wires got me tore up lol

I would be a little hesitant to run that system just off of stock battery and alternator (amp or alternator wont last long), need to get a voltmeter and watch voltage. Keep gains extra low.

I agree. that much amperage being pulled from a stock batt and alternator will eventually kill the amp with voltage drops

well, if you're in a rush you can wire it under your car, i did this for awhile but i wouldn't suggest it. if you cannot find a preexisting hole you gotta' drill one. get bushings so the wire doesn't get cut on the raw metal. i personally drilled a hole where your feet go where the pedals are, i moved the carpet out of the way and drilled a whole, rerouted the wire and then caulked it all up, hot glue works quite well too.

See if you can run it through the door gap. I dont know if its a big enough space on your car or not but i got 4 gauge wire ran through mine then hidden under the carpet through the backseat to the trunk and for reference i drive an 86 crown vic. Also if you are in a hurry or dont want to spend money on a bushing a cheap less cosmetic appealing way would be to drill the hole then use a spare piece of heater hose as a shield to protect the wire.

Thanks, I ordered a voltmeter and i plan on either getting another yellowtop battery or a new 220 amp alt. I guess im just going to have to drill a hole and seal it with a rubber grommet. Just wanted to see everyone's opinion before i did.

Yeah thoe electrical upgrades will be the best bet for you, also do the Big 3. If you do it right the first time then you wont have to ever do it again, so yeah just drill your own hole and put some sort of protection around the wire. Good luck .
