I didn't take into account where I was going to put my amp when designing this box (which is going to take up my ENTIRE trunk...so I had to pull one of the walls in slightly and that brought me down to only 4.7 cubes net after port and sub displacement...is that too small? Will I see any adverse affects?

They recommend 5 cubes as a minimum bud.

My original design (without room for the amp) comes out to about 5.4 after all displacements...

Well I think I found a new way to mount my amp and keep with the old design (5.4 cubes). I'm just going to offset the sub to the side, and mount the amp on top. (Both my sub and port are firing up)

maybe try external ports, possibly thru the rear deck thru the speaker holes...

Well I'm going slot ported, and I want everything to be hidden from view (stock looking). Besides, I found a way to stick with 5.4 and that should be fine

Obviously no optimal, but there's pretty much no way I could get more space out of my trunk without fiberglassing...

Meh, that's a discussion for a whole different thread. I've done it multiple times in the past with no adverse effects. I know I don't have a high post count here but I've been building/installing for a few years so I'm not a total newb

Why because of vibrations, man your whole car vibrates due to subs or streets. Just put some rubber pads under the feets of the amp and you will be ok, I to have done so for years with no problems from my amps besides user error. I think 5ft^3 is small for an 18" but if thats what you want to put it in then ok, I would go with 6ft^3 (after displacements for an 18") and put a 15" in less than 6ft^3 but Im no expert. I know they recommend 5ft^3, Im just not a fan of putting a subwoofer in the smalles sized box, when you could get better performance from a 15" in its optimum enclosure.

A box that's too small will not hurt the sub. At all.

And not reaching the lows defeats the purpose of the sub in the first place. I'd always recommend an optimal box instead of one that is small. IMO the OP would most likely benefit from a 15 instead.

You can put it in a .00000001 cf sealed box if you can get it to fit...it doesn't mean that it is going to sound right.

We highly recommend sticking within the guidelines that are in the 'Tech' section of the forum and the website.

Guys, I already said, I was able to find enough space for 5.4 cubes, that's well within the guidelines...

However, the box will sit up against my back seats, which are slanted. If I slant the back of the box to follow the seats, I could probably gain close to another cube...but this poses a problem because that's exactly where my port is

Yeah, adding in that extra space gains me .8 cubic feet, bringing the total to about 6.2...but now I need to move the port, and re-calculate the length
