Posted October 20, 200915 yr I am wondering what sized wire is sufficient to run from my amplifier to my subwoofer. It will be about 6 feet long and delivering approximately 1750-2000 watts rms.
October 20, 200915 yr 8-14 gauge is fine.x2, I use 13AWG Rockford Fosgate twisted wire leaving the subwoofers to 8 gauge but connectors with 8 gauge wire going to amps.
October 20, 200915 yr Author Alright I am just going to buy some 12 gauge knukonceptz wire then. Cash money is tight lol.
October 20, 200915 yr I have 10 guage wiring the coils together and to the terminal, and 8 guage from amp to terminal. I am pretty sure 8 guage is overkill, but it isnt much more than 10 or 12, so why not go with 8.wonder if well ever see something like knukoncepstz twisted 4 guage speaker wire... after both sets of insulation that crap would thicker than 4/0 power I bet.
October 20, 200915 yr 6 feet of klear 12 gauge is gonna be 3 bucks while 6' of twisted 8 gauge is gonna be 9 bucks so money really shouldnt have anything to do with the decision, that twisted 8 isnt small though, might not fit where you need to route it. you can cut the main jacket off and have 2 seperate 8 guage jacketed wires though to make it easier.
October 20, 200915 yr you always get your post in right as im typing a reply to the last one. pain trying to get an 8 gauge terminal? or pain to fit the wiring where its needed to run?
October 20, 200915 yr Author Pain fitting 8 gauge on the terminal and it does get expensive when you need to buy enough for all your subs. I am buying 50 ft to be safe. I need enough for 4 subs. I am in college and every dollar counts since I only have like $500 spendable right now and it needs to last me until xmas. Having a girlfriend I need to factor out $300 for presents so I have like $200 spendable from now until xmas lol.
October 20, 200915 yr Author I think I might just go 10 gauge to play it safe. I am pretty sure I should not have a problem fitting that in the terminal.
October 20, 200915 yr Get what you can fit, what your pockets can afford at the moment and 8 gauge is not needed/ so its pointless to buy it.
October 20, 200915 yr You can always trim wires off to make it fit into the terminal. That's not a problem at all. Sounds like you have it figured out with 10 gauge though.
October 20, 200915 yr x 2 on all the above recommendations. I usually use what I have left over from other projects or I go to a friends install shop and rummage through his scrap box of excess wire ...
October 20, 200915 yr It was a bitch to get 8 gauge into the SSD terminals especially knu konkepts. lol.
October 20, 200915 yr alright, Im sure 10 is fine, and this isnt to try and push you to get 8, but I just assumed you were only asking about the 6 feet to the box. my run is 7 ft between the 2 and I just ran the 8 there, then figured I was splitting it 3 ways in there so whatever current the 8 was carrying to the box, 10 could carry a 1/3 of it to each sub no problem.
October 21, 200915 yr 4 subs and 4 amps and you cant affford wiring..... ....j/k, man 8000 watts and 4 subs, cant wait to see this.
October 21, 200915 yr Author Ya i have my build log posted - it is titled Chris' Wall Build .... I think. Ya I pretty much ran out of money lol. I budgeted everything out and I had enough but you know how things pop up and never go to plan lol. I have to wait until xmas to get my batteries as well.
