i traded my $500 gift certificate for these 2 db extreme soundstreams. they seem to be a little bit beefier than the RL-p's they are ran to a .5 ohm final load. my amp seems to be doing ok, w/ impedance rise i expect it to be around 1ohm. i'll graph it later to make sure. the basket is about 1/8-1/4" bigger on the dbx's. well here's the pics.....

I would not be suprised if the SoundStreams are louder, but I know they are not going to sound better

I feel a competition a-brewin'!  :ready2go:  :lol2:

i'm workin on it

i've got a few things already.

given the same power...well a little more to the soundstreams, cause they're wired .5ohm vs the rl-p at 1ohm.

pros:

the soundstreams are louder.

the little bit i've heard, the lows have more authority.

cons: the basket is wider than the rl-p's. it took me a good 1/2 hour in my hot@ss car w/ a little dremel tool grinding away at my holes so they'd fit.

the surrounds are so much taller that i can't listen to them w/ the seats up. the rl-p's i could have them fully excurting and not touch the seat. but the soundstreams touch the seat not moving

and unfortunatly i've been moving stuff tonite and had to have the seat up :(

here is the impedance graph between the rl-p and the dbx.

you think my 1 ohm stable amp will be ok dipping to .75 on occasion?

and here is a quick spec comparison

db extreme--------------------RL-p

max 2500w----------------------1200w(?)

rms 1000w-----------------------500w

fs 38.2--------------------------27.487

vas 2.305ft----------------------5.253ft

qms 4.594-----------------------3.728

qes .465-------------------------.508

qts .422--------------------------.447

xmax 14.35mm-----------------24.6

spl 99.9--------------------------89.67 @1watt

rec box

ported

3.3ft^3--------------------------2.5-3.5 ft^3

27.5in^2 port @ 45Hz----------35in^2 port @ 28Hz

sealed

N/A-------------------------------1.5-2.5ft^3

Is that really 99 dB effecient ?

14MM x max is weak !

P.S

They look like Brahmas if you take off the dust cap and add another slug

i'm not to big on the shiny dust cap. could i get a boob and glue it over that one? if so where would i get boobs? it wouldn't change anything would it?

you can take the cap off and put another on.

I dont think it would change anything audibly

well i don't really wanna take that one off. (fear of breaking something) were would i get them?

I took my shiva one off

I took my JBL one off

Didnt crack/tear either

Just run a knife around it where it contacts the woofer

Partsexpress has some that you can buy

If you choose to get one from them contacg Steve, he has some deal on PE shipping

So why is the sub with 10mm less xmax louder? Can anyone explain, I just don't get it. I'm assuming that he has enough power to make the RL-P's move to their potential, so why are they not louder. (is the 1db in efficiency the reason?)

xmax isnt always necessarily louder - has much more to do with acoustical alignment etc.

if you compete in spl for any amount of time you'll figure it out quickly :)

yea, knew that *cough* stroker*cough*
