March 24, 201015 yr Author Dude....your front stage is going to be a beast! I guess it has to be to keep up with the monster sub you have in the trunk! I'm DEFINITELY tuned into this! And I'm sure I speak for most everyone....PICS! PICS! PICS! I think this car will sound pretty good when I'm done, WE will see.Anyone with a BTL in their ride knows how AMAZING this Beast is!!!!!Lots and Lots of pictures to come.

March 24, 201015 yr Author Here are some Pics that I took early in the morning so the have flat light. I am pretty happy with the way the trunk turned out. I DO plan on installing matching fuse holders and still need to install a gas strut on the trunk lid. I wish I could of made a false floor to mount the amps under but MY compromise was to have more usable trunk space and a Spare tire. I wish I could of concealed the wires but oh well, everything functions great and I can still use my car to travel. The funniest thing, My wife is pretty keen and ALWAYS lets me know her thoughts. I am trying SO HARD to make this SQ car loud ALSO, when the wife says "you know what you need, two Rides SO you can have one SPL and one SQ"!!!!! I love this woman.
March 25, 201015 yr Dude....I can't wait to see that front stage install.....It's going to be a BEAST of a front end! For making a form for your fiberglass mold, you could tape off the area really well, put on a couple of layers of double side tape for thickness of fiberglass and wrapping material, put down your choice of mold release (pam, vaseline, etc...) and use spray foam to fill in the area you want for the pods. Then sand it to the shape you want, glass over your foam mold, let it cure, tear out the foam, and viola! There are your pods......now if it were only that simple! Be sure to take LOTS of pics when you make them.....If they look half as good as that box in your trunk, they'll look incredible!

I was thinking of the removable mold Idea also but hadn't thought of using expanding foam, I was thinking wax. They will be right in my face so I will definetly want to make sure they look good.I am hoping to find something pre-made the right shape SO EVERYBODY brainstorm of things a shape they think might work and let me know if you think of ANYTHING??????
March 25, 201015 yr What if you were to make the baffle for the Fostex's and wrap it in aluminum foil to keep the foam from sticking (also use pam cooking spray on the foil) and spray the foam around the baffle and into the taped area so when you glass over the mold everything is already the correct shape for your baffle. I saw it done somewhere (fiberglass forums maybe?) and the idea just kind of stuck with me. If I can't get the tweeters right on my a-pillars, I may end up doing the same thing with mine if I can get the image better that way. Here's an idea for you for your midbasses in the doors.....doesn't help the sound a bit, but it looks cool as hell!Fiberglass Forums

The Fostexs should be here tomarrow!!!!! I am a member over on Fiberglass forums also. Youtube has a bunch of crazy fiberglass builds too. I think the foam Idea is probably the way I will go as I can envision it already.I do have a question for the speaker guru's, should I worry about baffle thickness on the Fostex's????? The chamber behind the baffle will only be 3/4" bigger around than the baffle opening. My other question is Since the dash pod will be over the factory tweeter hole, Should I vent the pod into the dash????? The hole would only be about an inch or so.Anyways heres where the Fostex's are going.......The fuckin' airbag on this side is my limiting factor for size.
March 25, 201015 yr What if you attatched the Fostex to the a-pillar? It would get it up away from the airbag and you could always use the foam to make a shape that when hollow could vent into the area where the factory tweeter is. I can't be of much help on what the Fostex requires for airspace or venting as I've never used them, but I have heard great things about them. From what I understand, the L3/L4 wide rangers from HAT need to be vented so maybe these need to be as well. Hopefully someone on here has used them before and knows the requirements. Good luck on the build! Can't wait to see how it turns out!

As you can see with the mock up horn I should clear the airbag panel. I know theres a few people on here with the FF85K in thier rides, If nothing else I will PM them for a hands on opinion.

My thought process was cut a hole in the a-pillar and recess it as much as you could into the pillar and glass a baffle to that, but that doesn't exactly help with the venting issue on the backside. Sounds like you have a plan and have thought it through much better than I did. You do have the advantage of having the car with you however! Now get off the computer and get out there and get them in! HaHa!

I am driving the Xterra today as my wife is getting the windsheild replaced in the Honda while I am at work. Its all good as I have been reading the fiberglass forums. I honestly think I am OVERTHINKING the dash pod as I usaully find things are completly different in real time once I get to building. Once I have the drivers in hand I will start building. I think the stretched fabric thing should work fine, Thats why I say I think I am OVERTHINKING it.
March 26, 201015 yr Vented for sure, they NEED to breath (as does any real driver).I wouldn't use cooking spray as it will rot, vaseline won't though or I suppose you could use vicks vaporub lol.
March 26, 201015 yr Heres a pic of the last set-up...And what it lOOk's like now.The left side....The right side.....More pics on the way.One more time" This is a great build" give yourself a hand.
March 27, 201015 yr Author I finally got my FF85K full range drivers!!!!! They are SOOO cute, haha. My midbasses are coming from canada And the shipping tracker says the made it over the border(finally). I also got my shipping confirmation from DC Power yesterday!!!!! anyways heres a few pics of the FF85K's.
March 27, 201015 yr sounds like you have alot of packages coming soon! I got my confirmation also....next Tuesday!!!

For molds, I've used so far : masking tape, in 2 layers, some brands work good, some soak resinpacking tape over masking tape. Good for simple shapes, never soaks resinvaseline over masking tape. Part came out a bit rough, nothing a bit of elbow grease won't fix.
March 28, 201015 yr Hey ! what do you think about this : aside from the fact that this is for a mid and held by a stainless-steel ring not shown in the picture (or anywhere else) and they are not tilted up that much because the windshield is used to reflect the sound wich wont do for your setup . the idea : a very strong pod wich breathes into the inner space of the dash . what is needed to do : the dash needs to be deadened and cladded in foam ,we did the whole back of the dash and foamed the heating/aico air-channels as well . we also used masking tape as suggested to protect the dash , on and around the speakerholes in the dash . I made some mdf rings for the baffle and breathing hole (so it looks clean on the inside )put "v shaped head" bolts in the holes of the orinal speaker mouning holes .and let them stick out a bit . then we put an 1 inch layer of fiber filled putty on around the speaker holes , let that harden for a while .the mdf rings where aligned the way we wanted (on axis in your case) and fixed to the fiberfilled putty with ..... fiberfilled putty ... let that harden . take the contraption out and fill up everything you missed again with the fiber filled stuffthen roughly give (sand/fill) it the shape you want with more fiber filled putty .further shaping is done with soft putty .shizzle the mdf out carefully in layers ..and glue a new mdf baffle in , this time with speakerhole .... sand some more .now it is ready for painting / carpetting when mounted : behind the speakers you can experiment tune the fullrange speakers with wool . there things are rocksolid a weigh a heap ... exactly what you need !cheers !

I have a design in my head SO I am Solid on that part, just need to apply it.I read about aperiodic enclosure, I assume this is the concecpt with the "wool tuning"?My pods will be hollow also. Thanks for the encouragement.I will post pics of the pod build.
March 28, 201015 yr Man, your entire build is absolutely fantastic. I hope to one day get to this level in SQ. Can't wait to see the final results, you're putting in so much time and hard work I know it will be amazing. Keep on keepin' on!
March 28, 201015 yr the wool is there to provide some boundary , it slows down air , lets the speaker act as if it were in an enclosure of a certain size and it makes the waves that reach though what ever path they traveled into your cabin being later and softer I think what you meant was a variovent or aperiodic membrane, that is probably what I will have to use in my build because I cant build in my dash , so therefore I need to open up the back of my pods and sandwich wool between two grilles creating an variovent .but I'd rather not so gonna try my 3inchers in .7 litres sealed entirely filled with a lot of wool ...but I expect it not work to be honest .
March 28, 201015 yr oh ... those rings , I dont make those , a friend of mine is in charge of those , where he works he has these computer/CAD controlled table things I don't know the english word for ,that cut those .
April 4, 201015 yr Author I got my DC Power alternator, man this thing is SEXY!!! These guys make a gOod lOokin' alternator. I think 250 amps should be fun to have on tap hehe.I didn't realize DC sends a new green stripe belt also. SWEET!!!!! these guys Rock!the machining on the alum. case is beautiful.....Should be pretty easy to install as the alternator is right on top in my car.
