So im stuck on which amp to buy for my 12" bl sub. im set on hifonics and curious which amp of there Brutus line i should consider? i would like to not get an extra battery if possible.

Thanks!

is the sub fully loaded? im not too familier with their new lines but i believe the 1610 should be good. little headroom is never a bad thing, IF you're gentle with the gain/volume knob.

forgot to ask... why are you stuck on hifonics?

oh im sorry forgot to add that it is fully loaded... and price wise ive scene some hifonics amps with 2000 watts for under 500. so im gonna set my price range for an amp under 500 bucks.

its not that im stuck with hifonics at all. just have used there amps and they have done great!

if you know of any other amps u recommend (which i know there are a lot others) im all forward for that.

so if i went with a 1600 watt amp would that be good enough for no extra battery?

thanks for the responses guys!!

Your gonna need to do the Big 3 and buy a volt meter and install the amp, then watch your voltage and see how it reacts. If it drops then you will need a secondary battery, more than likely depending on your factory alternator you will need a secondary battery with 1500 watts or more. Take a look at Sundown for that price, the SAZ-1500D or SAE-1200D will fit your application as well.

I like Maxxsonics amps. Lot of bang for the buck.

The MB Quart DSC2000.1 were being sold for $280/90 or so shipped a few months ago. Looks like prices have gone up, but check around.

Sundown would be another good choice. You have LOTS of options in your budget.

awesome! thanks guys!

big 3, and a meter and such is probably a given, but im still kinda stuck.

like jay-cee was saying or maybe im wrong but... if i was to get an amp with under 1500 watts like a 1200 watt amp or so i would need no extra battery? i just dont want to get an amp that is just way over the top for my set up.

... and saving money with a lower watt amp isnt bad at all either. haha

amazing! thanks BKOLFO4!!

so since that amp puts out 1200 watts and the BL is like..? 1000rms i believe. i could set 1000 watts to the BL? (im most likely gonna have a shop do the tuning and such) but would 1000watts to the BL be perfect?

The BL should handle the 1200 watts from that amp with no problem, as long as the box is tuned correctly and the amp settings (gain and subsonic filter) are correct.

my bl took 1500 wrms daily for a long time, i increased the power to 1800 wrms about 4 month ago, and im not sure if i like the results. these things can take some power for sure! only heats up a little bit on 47+hz notes. but that could be multiple things.

we cant know if you are going to need another battery or not. its pretty car dependent.

if you have heavy light dimming/bad monitored voltage then you will need one-like said before, get that meter.

im putting 1k to my bl right now and its just as loud as when i put another 300 watts to it, so i dont see any reason to use the extra power.

this saves on the performance of the car's electrical, amp and sub alike. just have to mess around with everything and see what fits you best.

as for amps, you can check some out here he sells new and refurbished ones (cheaper!). dont let "refurbished" get to you though, he knows what he is doing and does it well.

great customer service to boot!

ive had my amp from him for a year now and no problems.

last thing, if an amp is rated at 1200 watts it doesnt mean it is ALWAYS pushing 1200 watts. with the right electrical and such it can be around there, but it all depends on how you have tuned everything. thats what the gain knob is for.

secondly, if it is advertised 1200 watts it may not be anywhere near that at X volts. where X is your voltage while bumpin'.

the same rule goes with what amount of wattage you tune to if you set the gain with a DMM.

hope none of that is confusing haha let me know :peepwall:

i vote get a saz1500d...or a sae1200d. brand new, great customer service, and they put out gobs of power. either amp will be more than enough for what you need. also, if ur stuck on a hifonics...id sell my brutus 1610d for 150 plus shipping. pm me if interested.

Anton Miller... to funny. while i was looking at subs i notice your 12 and i thought i was set! sooo clean. maybe im mistaken though.. but did you say you were going up to a 15 bl? are u happy with ur 12? or do u kinda wish you went with a 15?

and

watts.... i was looking into that sundown amp you recommended so i googled it. found this SWEET set up with a 15 bl. thought to myself... wow. that is nice! then came back onto the forum and realized THATS YOU! hahah. how do u like your 15? im just starting to think maybe i should get a 15" bl??

I would look into the SAZ-1000D from Sundown! Great little underrated amplifier that will power your subwoofer just fine and be easier on the electrical.

It's on sale in the SSA Store!

i love my 15, so much i plan to get another someday :D but size of the speaker is space dependent, if you can fit it go for it! but you wont lose much with just a 12, could always get another later on.

my final vote is the sundown 1200 :)

yeah... like i said. headroom is good. just because the power is there doesnt mean you need to use it. the 1500 will be fine as well. just be nice to it. what size box do you have?

between the 1000 and 1500:

either have the lower rated amp, which is cheaper but you will have to turn the gain knob up further, making the amp work harder.

or get the 1500 which is more expensive but you wont need to crank the gain knob resulting in the amp do less work, but have the possibility to over power the sub with improper tuning.

both will give you the noise you want, and sundown will not let you down. reliable, and has CS from the car audio gods. :drink40:

If they are gonna charge you to high, check out some carpenters on craigslist who are looking to do some wood working or talk to some enclosure builders on this site (I notice most on here charge less than local shops).

nope, im going to a 12" BTL. i couldnt be happier with the turn out of my single 12" BL on the rockford fosgate 1500. i just love it. but after about 1 year of listening to it you always need more! lol
