need another battery and some deadener. ive been planning it out down to the last connector.. ive got my mind set on a 2nd battery as my "distribution block" in the back. plus when i run this wire im yankin out all the seats and carpet and running everything under there.. would be pointless not to deaden it while its out. i just got the box today.. damn its big.. guy told me it was 8.7 or so cu ft tuned to 32hz.. I havent checked his work, but its gonna fit in the tahoe real nice. I personally think it could use some bracing.. but i donno, box building hasnt been to great to me lol. see you guys when its that time :)

Let me go ahead and add this is my first BIG install.. built a box or 2, used a shitload of pre fabbed boxes for misc. 12's.. all garbage compaired to this.. so if you guys see me doin something wrong please chime in :) im thinkin ill be ok though.

Just bothering you and making convo, my temporary build is not even done and been going on since mid November so I understand taking your time and planning everything down to the "T".

Small update with no pictures yet.. Hooked up my alternator, Kinetik hc2000 and did the big 3 only today while i gotta wait till the end of this week or so to get the last battery in. Im not very happy with this so far. I knew i screwed up with this damn alternator i got. it was from db-electrical.. i mean..my stock voltage meter hopped right up there when i started the vehicle. a strong 14+ volts.. then the rpms kicked down and it was a low 13 or so.. give it gas and bam.. right back up.. let off then right down. not what i was lookin for at all.. Ive had that damn alternator sittin around since i first started buying shit for this install.. never heard people mention that type of alternator here.. even my stock alternator didnt have so much movement in voltage.. just irritates me now.. idea is steady voltage and unless im 1300+ RPM my voltage is shitty. Hope when i add a 2nd HC2000 battery it decides to sit still.. As far as pictures ill snap a few when my side mount terminals for the kinetik battery comes in.. its a mess now, damn battery was wayyy bigger than my stock battery tray.. had to do some manipulating to make it fit. This is the first time ive done a big 3 and the first time ive worked with 0 gauge wire.. shit is hard to work with at first.. took me a while to start doing it right, not to mention all the soldering for the terminal rings.. but its in there, gonna continue with the install till its done and if that damn alternator gives me anymore shit im gonna go buy a quality one like i should have from the beginning. if you guys have any recommendations please let me know. Looking for no more than $350 if possible.. really like something cheaper, but like ive heard here a million times.. "you get what you pay for" and my $250 piece of shit alternator sure is what i got.

Your serpentine belt could be slipping. You may need a new belt, maybe even a smaller belt.

I had a h.o. alt from motorcityreman for a number of years that did that. Low volts at idle and would be 14+ about 1k rpms. It was suggested to put a smaller pulley on the alt, which I did, but this did not solve the entire problem. I believe mine had to do with the way the h.o. alt was rewound. I can't remember how much exactly I paid, but near your price point. It's my understanding that these type h.o. alts may indeed produce higher amperage but not until it has significantly spun up enough. Same reason why you are seeing low voltage at idle perhaps. I think my next h.o. alt will be from a higher price point where it seems h.o. alts are rewound differently and provide constant voltage, even at lower rpm, and higher amperages throughout the non-highway driving rpm range.

the belt could be replaced, i was planning on that, but i didnt consider it being my problem.. ill for sure look into the belt, although i think its the alternator, it even mentioned on the website i bought it that it doesnt make its rated output at idle, so i should have payed more attention when i bought it. ill get a few pics up here in a day or 2.

I bought a GM alternator for a 1997 chevy 2500 series diesel. Easy swap out.

No problems over a year charging 5 batteries (2 walmart batteries up front and 3 Alfa Gell Cells in the back).

Didn't pay half as much money. Good luck with your build ...
