I ordered my re-cone for my BTL about a month and a half ago and it didn't work out for me, I thought I could get the thing to work, but since it was my first time to re-cone a sub a few things went wrong so I'm just going to order a Q when I get the money to do so, i only have a few questions, will my Rockford 1051s be too much for that sub and will it be louder than my btl 15 was on the same amp and in the same box?

You do not want the Q, completely different purpose. The BTL will be louder, anyway.

I originally used epoxy to glue down the spiders, surround and dust cap, as soon as i turned the thing on the dust cap came off and a few seconds later the spiders came up, so i took the thing back apart and re-glued everything with CA glue, that lasted a little longer but this time when the spiders broke loose one of the tinsels broke

you are going from "The best" to 3rd best... Why? just order a new recone and be more prepared next time. with the time it takes for the stuff to ship that should be ample time to have everything ready you know.. but if a new sub is what you want then do whatever makes you happy...

If you really decide to give up on you're btl pm me or somthing and ill buy what you have of it, if you are set on a new sub that is!

The CA glue I put the glue itself on the basket and put activator on the spiders and surround when I put the thing together i held the spiders down with clamps and the surround down with clothespins for 12 hrs then waited another 12 hrs before i put power to it.

Sounds like the surfaces were not clean. Glue needs a clean surface and a slight abrasion to said surface to hold well.

before i glued it i cleaned it with acetone, but didn't prepare it in any other way

you should have probably sanded the basket down to bare metal. i did my first recone recently aswell,

perhaps you either need to get the grinder out and clean up the old basket or order a new basket along with your recone. also what type of CA did you use? all CA isnt created equal

the basket was new so it was already down to bare metal, but i think the glue I used was wrong,

Since i just found out that there's a dealer close to my ouse I'm looking at getting a DD 9518g, anyone know how well that'll compare to a BTL 18?

Ok when you get a new basket each of the screws that hold it down, should be 6 of them, should have a dab of CA glue holding them down, What i used was a 20g needle from walgreens and some paint thinner to break the glue down. you're going to want to use that and if possible an impact screwdriver, works like an impact wrench buy you use a hammer on it instead of an air compressor. I was told that you don't have to use CA glue to hold down the screws and that loctite or a similar product will work.

Since i just found out that there's a dealer close to my ouse I'm looking at getting a DD 9518g, anyone know how well that'll compare to a BTL 18?

If you don't mind paying the price, they are along the lines as a BTL 18. Just as with every other sub, if you put it in the right situation you should be pleased. Dealer here in Lubbock, told me they were freaking $830 shipped.

alright i'll talk to the dealer here in austin, if they aren't too expensive i'll go with them, if not i'm probably going to go with either a BL 18 or an ascendant havoc 18

Ask somebody which sub is the best if its going in a sq install......... now ask the same for a spl install...... You'll get two completely different answers. None of their subs are absolutely the best all around, which sub is the best depends on your goals. The btl is the "best" if best means loudest..... But the Q is the best, if best means sq. That arbitrary statement of 3rd best is just wrong. Although personally the op does not sound like a Q buyer to me.

yea talked to the dealer today and they wanted $625 for the 3518, so i didn't even bother asking what they wanted for the 9518
