Posted April 2, 201015 yr I have a hifonics bxi2010 and wanted to know if its safe to run this amp a .5 ohm. I have a 200 amp alt, 2 runs of 1/0 wire, and 2 c&d batts in the back. Thanks in advance.
April 2, 201015 yr it is never safe to run at 0.5 ohm. for burps maybe if you know what you are doing but for daily NEVER.first read this thread about impedance rise! Why "daily" systems should not count on impedance rise - SSA Car Audio Forumthen think about 1/2 ohm load? at 1/2 ohm (compared to 1ohm) you are drawing 2times the current though the amp! now lets say the relay in the amp is rated for 20amps and you toss 25amps at it or more b/c of being at 1/2 ohm and you pop your relay in the amp! so what simple fix yes but what happens if you also pop some fets and some other gadgets? then what? you pay a BIG bill b/c you were being dump!plus you void warrenty!
April 2, 201015 yr Definitely not. That amp is not made to run at .5 ohm. There are few amps that are able to handle it and those amps are made with much more quality than hifonics.
April 2, 201015 yr Author Alright any recomendations on a good .5 stable amp. I was just wondering about the hifonics a couple told me they have done it for a while and it was fine just wanted to find out.
April 2, 201015 yr First why do you want to run at .5 ohms, what will you run and how much power is needed? What is your budget on amps?
