I'm all new to this car audio stuff so I'm a little lost. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and i bought new speakers for my front and rear doors. my fronts are 6x9 Boss speakers and my rears are 6.5 Boss speakers. I wanted it to be louder and not to sound like crap when i turn up the bass and treble. It now sounds good except it's the same volume limit as the stock speakers. The rear ones are 400w a piece and the fronts are 350w a piece. Shouldn't the volume be able to go a lot louder than my stock ones? is this because I have a stock head unit? Should i get an amp?

Thanx.

Those are peak ratings number one, so dont plan to put that much power on them. Yes an amp will make them sound better than a headunit would, will it be louder (maybe or maybe not, that depends on the speakers themselves and what they can do).

The rear ones are 400w a piece and the fronts are 350w a piece.

Those power ratings are a lie. Do not pay attention to them.

There are several factors that affect how loud a speaker will get. Yes, having more available power by adding an external amplifier could potentially help. However, your speaker choice is unfortunately not a good starting point. My honest advise if you are working on a budget is to upgrade your speakers (again), maximize your installation by properly installing them and adding the necessary sound deadening, and then add an amplifier when the budget allows. It's more money, but results in the long run will far exceed what you could expect with your current speaker selection.

My 6.5's

My 6,9's

My headunit I bought

That will be my setup once my headunit arrives. I know next to nothing about amps. All i know is that they increase the power output. Could you give me a little more insight into what they are? What model should I get, (cheaper the better)? And maybe even a good link to a description on how to install one?

Thanx again.
