Posted June 8, 201015 yr I moving up from an old 200 rms orion 12" sub to 2-fi ssd's with 1600 watts to them ( or what ever my Soundstream will really put down. lol ) Now looking at the follow 2 box designs from here, ( which is super sweet that you guys posted these! ) Box 1. 12" xcon portedBox 2. 12" icon portedOutside of what appears to be an extra dolly of vertical bracing and total port area are the pretty much the same. Of course the overall dimensions are a bit different, but they have the same internal volume and tuning frequency. So which box is better? More port area make a difference when tuning is the same? Any in-site is much appreciated. Got the email today that the subs shipped so I wanna get to building the box! Yes I am a newbie when it comes to box designs as I have only built one in my life for my old RE XXX 18, but my electrical will handle the draw ( see below )... 0 awg big 3, 0 awg power wire, HO alternator, optima Yellow top. I am actually going to do a build log on this one with the box and upgrades in 4 stages.Stage 1: Box build plus metering of current system just because I wanna see how big of an increase I gain. lolStage 2: 0 gauge power wire: stock electrical. Will be metered on TL post sub breaking period at the dash.Stage 3: Big 3 with 0 gauge. Metered againStage 4: HO alternator and optima: Metered final time Just for fun and to see how much the upgrades will effect output of the amp and spl. I know it will make a difference but it gives me something to do...
June 8, 201015 yr Author The XCON needs slightly more port area because it displaces more air. What effect would either box have on the ssd's then? Stock spec ssd's.
