does anyone have any experience with the Pioneer TS-W3002D4? i want to buy 2 of them and have a 1500 watt amplifier. should i upgrade the amp? are they a good quality sub?

I think there are some better sub choices but the pioneers are good.

If your still open to suggestions look around at some of the manufactures on the forum.

They are decent subs. However, for what the list price is on them, I think you could do better. What enclosure are you planning on using them in? These units lean heavily towards a sealed cabinet. They just don't have the motor strength for a ported cabinet.

i can get them for 175 each, and i was planning on a 3 or 4 cu ft box for both of them (no separate chambers) tuned to high 30's. what else would you recommend? do you know anything about planet audio's the big bang 2 subs?

in that price range i would look at the SSA dcon or Fi X

He ha s 1500 watt amp so 2 SSD's or SA-12's would be alright but no Fi X's

i'm probably going to upgrade to an audioque 2200.1

then i would do two ssds

With $350 you can get a powerfull 15" sub ! But just One !

The 2 sa's or ssd's can be good too.

Here are some ideas to study : Fi bl or maybe btl, Ssa Xcon, Incriminator Death row, sundow Z,...and many more!

Good "work" !

i had already considered a 15" fi BTL a little while ago...do you think that is a better choice than 2 pioneers? it has less surface area...

It will be much better for the proposed enclosure. It will have the motor strength required to deliver more output in the ported box, where the Pioneers will struggle.

has anyone heard anything about planet audio's big bang 2 series of subwoofers? the 12" has an efficiency of 95db at 1W/1M

I would prefer the btl, for sure !

Even a single 12 btl in a proper box should hit really hard! If it's what you're looking for.

In my car, I run a single 15 ssa xcon in a sealed box, and I love it !!!

:)

So I gather you are interested in big box/ big name woofers. In that case I might suggest looking into Alpine TypeRs (not a bad budget ported woofer) or a JLW3, again not a bad budget big name woofer. But you can really do a lot better by looking into some smaller name internet based companies. The prices are great and the quality is also very good. In fact, dollar for dollar, you can really get a better product for a smaller dent in the wallet.

No they don't. That's called marketing.

Link: Sensitivity

Sensitivity (SPL) = 112 + 10*Log(9.64 * 10^(-10) * Fs^3 * Vas / Qes)

SPL = 112 + 10 * LOG(9.64 * 10^(-10) * 29^3 * 39.64 / 0.586) = 84db

So the actual sensitivity of the driver is a full 11db lower than advertised at 84db.

how would type x's compare to the pioneers?

You keep asking about subwoofers, but you've yet to tell us what your actual goals and objectives are for the system. What are you trying to accomplish? Are you focused more on sound quality or output?

thanks for the info on the actual efficiency. i'm more into output. i currently have 2 10" type r's (1042, not 1043) ran off of a powerbass asa 1500.1dx. i'm thinkin about going to 2 12" type r 1243's (the new ones) off of a rockford either t1000-1bdcp or t1500-1bdcp so i can save some money on subs and invest in a quality amp (subs are 144 a piece). any opinions on the newest type r's?

If you're going withe the 12" Type-R I just googled it and found them on Amazon for $126.89 shipped a piece.

:suicide-santa:

You should really stop going mainstream, there are tons of companies (on this forum also) that sell great products for less then what you can get mainstream woofers for. The SSD's will blow away the type R's and so will SSA Icons for a similar price.

yeah i know. if i were to stay with type r's which would be louder, 2 of the new 12" ones for a rms rating of 1200w or 3 1042 10" woofers for an rms of 1500w
