I currenty have thhe two subs in a 4th order blowthrough off of a 4500d on 16 volts. Gains were set around 1/2 way and it pounded for bout 4 days. Then I decided to turn it up a little. Between 1/2 and 3/4. Now the subs don't seem near as loud to me..could it be I'm just gettinng used to them? I'm gonna check with the dmm tomorrow and read the coils and see how many watts the amp is putting out...I hope I didn't mess anything up:(

This has nothing to do with Fi.

What amp are you using? What does your electrical consist of? two alts, one for stock wiring, and second for stereo? Or are you using a step down?

An amp is only going to make so much power and turning the gain up to try and increase power will just lead to clipping, not more power.

How are you going to read your coils to see how many watts you are putting out?

i am going to read the amp for watts...im going to read the coils on the speakers to make sure i didnt blow them.

yes the speakers are made by fi...therefore the reason im posting here..this has nothing to do with the amp. i was wondering if something is wrong with the speakers.

a Sundown 4500d on 16volts....triple alts...one for 12v system. 2 for the subs and nothing else. no stepdowns or nothing. 2/0 welding wire to amp and 4/0 from alts to batts. 3 xs d1600's

Gains aren't volume knobs.

:)

i do realize that. lol but i wanted more power...i mainly wanna know if i have messed the speakers up or is it jsut me getting used to them...if both coils read fine does that mean nothing is wrong with the speaker?

Pretty much for the most part..if you burned things up by clipping them the leads will create more resistance and it will eventually break.

Hard to tell if you are just going deaf or if you broke something. When the subs quit working that means you broke them :)

I hope you're not going deaf !:peepwall:

Maybe some wires are not in their place no more?

Have you checked the connections / the wires ?

i honestly dont think im clipping that amp. lol but i mean they still play and what not. idk just sounds a little different. maybe its my truck fallin apart? lol my rearview has already fell off...lol :) so if i check the coils in ohms they should read around 1 ohm (dual 1 ohm vc) give or take...hopefully im not goin deaf. but id rather be goin deaf than it be the speakers..lol also do yal have any stronger recones? just out of curiousity..maybe more or stiffer spiders? :)

i honestly think what it is is the back wall flexin way more and makin more nosie...i have the flap that lets air in and out of the cabin when u close the door. (single cab s10) and i think its the stupid thing flappin....but i will fix it soon enough to stop it..the speakers themselves just sound a little different...i'm just very cautious when crap starts soundin different...dont wanna damage anything

No point in doing that..

If you are running into that it is because you are running way too much power and playing below tuning and wearing the spiders out :)

They are how they are for a reason..we can stack more on a recone if you want, but isn't going to sound optimal by any means.

ah gotcha...hmmm...tryin to figure out a way to fit more subs in the bed of an s10...lol whats the size difference between a regular ported box and 4th order? they are currently in the 4th order

  • Author

i figured it out nick. the brace in the middle of the box was loose and letting air through the hole. thats what was makin the noise. tightened it up and threw some silicone on it :)

Glad it was a simple fix :drink40:

  • Author

heck yeah lol i didint know anything about it till my dad was standin outside and saw stuff coming out where dust was on the outside of the box. lol
