let's say----someone here was to make a limited batch of handmade amps that were very easy on the pocketbook----I have a few questions---

1----what options would you want---power wise and such

2----what size would be the best

3----what class would you want

4---and finally would you buy from someone here building amps?

2- nothing too big but no need to go crazy small either

3- solid A/B and or T class

I am seriously thinking of building just a few amps and see how people like them.

From the posts of yours that I have read, I trust you more than current manufacturers and would be glad to buy from you as well. It would give me a reason to sell off some of my other gear

i think a DE Special that does 200x2 @ 4 ohms with all appropriate x-overs for running comps would be uber badass

1. Sub amp with regulated PS ( 1000W area) or like acidburn said a 200W component amp

2. I would want something that is decient. Nothing super big.

3. A/B and T woulc be cool too

4. Depends how it peforms/looks

i like headroom thats good power right there.

100 - 200 x 2 @ 4ohm for components.

~ 1000 - 1500 x 1 @ 1ohm for sub.

I'm not too picky. Keep them simple. I'd rather have an amp that looks and feels like a tank than an amp that has a mosaic painted on it and uses lots of plastic.

I want tube.

1. 200x2@4ohms, 100x4@4ohm, 1000x1@1-4ohms. I also like all the wiring/controls in the front of the amp as opposed to the sides.

2. thin, longer amps instead of thick, wide amps.

I think your market would be making limited edition, super HQ, amps that are pretty efficent

Class D by far is the cheapest to build----Class AB for durability and overall power to sound.

I have never tried a common ohm power amp---I'm sure that I can find out about them though.

I am checking into semi-switching PS----IE---runs Class AB until current is needed and switches then to a Class D----kind of like a hybrid amp.

I have desided to make only about 3 or 4 amps----keeping the Beta version for myself of course-----NOW---I am going to be doing this in my spare time and if anyone here knows me knows I don't have much---but I will try.

If someone made a pair of single-ended solid-state amps, I would be all over that

Monoblocks, maybe 10-15wpc.

The least amount of negative feedback as possible.

Basically, a cheaper version of Nelson Pass' Zen monoblocks.

dave, if you are going to only make a few amps, I would say go for an all out SQ loves front stage amplifer, but then again with making so few won't that keep the costs high?

not if they are hand made by me----I know I can keep my costs low.

I would like a class A/B high SQ amp or monoblock; right now, I need a 2 channel that does between 75-150 @4 ohms and double that @ 2 ohms. A 4 channel would work as well. Are you planning to have a high slope crossover built in or none?

none---just a plain ol' amplifier----nothing fancy----think of something like a Sinfoni amp.

If I were making three amps for a discerning crowd:

1) 1500.1 sub amp

2) 200x2 Front stage amp

3) A take off on the component amp idea, but in 4 chn.

150x2 for mid

50x2 for tweet or alternatively wire to 300x1 & 50x2 for lower cost systems

Maybe item 3 is for too much a niche market, but man would that make life simple, ESPECIALLY if you added crossovers (one post late here).

Pure gain blocks. No internal crossover/boost/etc. (a la Linear Power, Coustic DR, etc)

Accept balanced inputs; either via dual RCA's or mini-Din connections.

Independent gain controls for each channel.

Unregulated PS.

200-400w x 2 @ 4ohm

200w x 4 @ 4ohm

And a solid subwoofer amp.....whatever size doesn't matter. I'm not a bass head anymore

Then a 25w x 2 @ 4ohm amp for those high efficiency users (horns, ribbons, etc).

Maybe a nice 3-channel for comps and a sub.....200w x 2 @ 4ohm of A/B power, then 1000w x 1 @ 1ohm of class D power all in one chassis with separate inputs for the front and sub channels.

2----what size would be the best

Physical size? Something on the order of the Helix amps would be cool. Thin. Smaller sized. Able to put anywhere.

3----what class would you want

Class A/B for comps, Class D for sub.....then make that baby amp a pure class A Who needs efficiency anyways?!?

Oh, that's one thing I forgot to mention. Make the 2 and 4 channel amps 1ohm/channel, 2ohm/bridged stable!!!
