Posted September 8, 201015 yr 1 18" DC Level 5. Still waiting for some other bits to come in (amp/battery). But in the mean time, we want to go ahead and start on the box. We were thinking of these two options.1) Sub up/ports up. Have sub in middle, with a port on each side of sub instead of a single port. Does anyone see any negatives to this besides using up more wood/cost more? etc... Basically would like to do it this way because OCD side is taking over, and we would like to keep it symmetrical.2) Sub up/port back. This would just be sub up, with a single port along the bottom of the back of the enclosure. Pretty straight forward.Basically, just looking for yall's opinions. Which do you think would work better/be louder? It'll be in a 05 Tahoe btw..And once we decide exactly what we want, we'll be looking for someone to design it.

To be loud I guess even tho it's being underpowered? Confused by this question... Daily beaterPrevious subwoofers you have used, and their installation particulars This will be the firstList any research you have previously done Umm... Read b/c I will be giving not much power to it, it will need to be built to larger side of the specs (around 6cu?). Definitely going to need bracing and doubled-up baffle. Somewhere b/t 30-34hz is what I've seen recommended. Anything else?

I'm trying to figure out how all the added info he posted changes the port direction other then spl or daily. School me! You guys tend to want to know all the variables to come to an answer and never explain HOW you come to said conclusion. Can't learn that way. I would have said port back based on the first question because that seems to be a basic rule of thumb in suv's. Which I derive from answers to questions like this. Which means I could be learning the wrong thing. See my point?
September 8, 201015 yr Woofer and port placement depends on a few factors, large woofers in large enclosures that take up the whole cargo area, sub(s) up port back, smaller woofers in less airspace either subs up port side, or subs forward port side in most cases.

But anyways, the vote is for sub up, port back? Edited September 8, 201015 yr by kram3r
