Posted September 20, 201014 yr As the title reads: Can a pair of midbass speakers be used on a monoblock amp? I understand they would not be in stereo mode, but how much will/will not affect the 80/90 to 250hz range. Has anyone tried this or am I just pissin in the wind? Asking questions as I plan a new front stage to go with my plans for a wall setup. Thanks
September 20, 201014 yr The content that you send to them would be in stereo. You could do it, but it wouldn't sound ideal. And if you're looking to install actual midbass drivers, you're probably looking for ideal sound.
September 20, 201014 yr Author If the crossovers on the amp will allow for it I don't see why not.The content that you send to them would be in stereo. You could do it, but it wouldn't sound ideal. September 21, 201014 yr wouldn't you lose left and right separation?the audio signal would be divided before the amp.
September 21, 201014 yr I assume you are asking if driving the left and right mid bass speakers off the same mono amp would sound o.k. in the 250-90 hertz region. If you are, are you looking for sound quality or just some punch to help blend the wall in with the front stage? September 21, 201014 yr Author I assume you are asking if driving the left and right mid bass speakers off the same mono amp would sound o.k. in the 250-90 hertz region. My assumption so far from the posts is that it will function but not have a very good quality of sound?? Punch is allways wanted, but if I go this far I think my efforts would be rewarded if it had a reasonable level of sound quality.
September 21, 201014 yr wouldn't you lose left and right separation?the audio signal would be divided before the amp.But summed at the amp resulting in one channel which is NOT stereo, hence zero channel separation. Left and right midbass are both playing the same summed signal.
September 21, 201014 yr I don't know what amp you were going to use? What about two mono amps , one for each side. You might be able to get away with a class D.

I could see if I didn't care about it sounding good I'd just do it, but that is I have 3 old-school MTX-2300's that I can use for the front stage, but kind of don't want to because they are old like me. May bite the bullet as I get deeper in the build and pick up new amplifiers for the front stage.
September 21, 201014 yr Do you have the mid's? If you do give it a try and see what it sounds like to you, after all it's your money and your opinion that matters.
September 21, 201014 yr So you don't want to use them due to their age? Those are some of the best amps ever built IMO.
September 22, 201014 yr Author So you don't want to use them due to their age? Those are some of the best amps ever built IMO.I have been using these for a while (8-10yrs), you are correct they are very consistant, always worked and never had a problem. Lots of power as well. Guess I should just use them. I actually have the bridges that go between them to make them look like one amp (never took them out the boxes) LOL!

The other day, I gave a guy a circumference measurement for area.
