Posted September 29, 201014 yr ok ill give a quick run down of what i would like to do.. i would like to build an upside down L box.. with the slot port going into my cabin.. and my subs on the long part of the L inverted. to save space and show off motor... here is a pic of my trunk. the top part is is 10 tall... 19 deep and 41 wide.from the floor to the step level is 14 and from the floor to the top lip is 26 and i want to port thru the rear deckill cut this all away i know its kinda hard to picture what im talkin about... ill come up with some sketches of what i would like.. but im wondering WILL IT WORK!!> i need some where around 3 cubes and tuned to 30htz thanks guys,ps. not to be rude.. but i dont need theroys from newbies.. i would like advice and help from proven builders and designers. thank you .
September 29, 201014 yr Author no the measurement for the to side to side is from the inside of all hinge and tenetion bar holders 41.5 is what i measured maybe cut it down to 40 to be on the safe side. this set up would kinda be like an external port if im thinking correctly.. and i donno if its long enough to support 30 hrtz.. im no box builder. thanks... and any questions at all i can answer thanks guys.
September 29, 201014 yr Hit up Bromo on here or go over to the CA-F forum and ask him there as he has a box design section over there!
October 2, 201014 yr I get it. Pretty much everything on the shelf will be vent, while the rest is the enclosure. SHould work, but you may have some cancellation issues. Each car will behave differently.
October 2, 201014 yr Author I get it. Pretty much everything on the shelf will be vent, while the rest is the enclosure. SHould work, but you may have some cancellation issues. Each car will behave differently. i thought about that as well.. and i think if i dont SEAL off the trunk from the car its self it may be ok .. so pretty much fire the port into the cabin while alowing the trunk to breath into cabin aswell may work. but i have no idea how to tune it.. or even check for cubic feet in air space. nor am i solid on a square port, per haps bigger round ports may work better.. i donno.. i need alot of help here.. my other is sweet.. but the new towncars have smaller trunks.. and it will be a tight fit.. and im not sure how its gonna fit.. so maybe i change it up on this build! thanks for the help guys.
October 2, 201014 yr Admin I think the bandpass idea might be worth looking into more. As in similar to your design, but having a sealed enclosure around the back side of the drivers.
October 2, 201014 yr Jon, I also would highly recommend a bandpass enclosure, maybe a 4th order?? I have one built with aero ports firing into the cabin, sealed off from the trunk...a lot of output. I say hit up 80inches here and have him design you a box. The man is good at what he does.
October 2, 201014 yr WIth the bandpass, you lose the woofer show unless you insert plexi somewhere, not to mention any trunk space he wanted left.
October 2, 201014 yr going off your max posted dimensions you do not quite have enough room for a proper bandpass enclosure. (unless you could spare more room elsewhere)but it would look something like this.
October 2, 201014 yr Author thats a great box and i love it.. but unless it can be put in in sections it wont fit. because the top part of the box is a slide in underneath the rear deck.. it wont drop flat in, thats why i wanted it to be shorter and inverted so i had no problem droping it in and sliding it forwerd under the back deck. i still have to leave room for cells and amps... what if i droped in inverted part and just run them like normal.
October 3, 201014 yr Author jbl. with out the extra part to cover the motors how many cubes is it. and if i flip the subs right ways.. will it work like you sketched.?
October 3, 201014 yr i would not recommend doing a ported box with the port firing into cabin and the subs firing into trunk. your isolating the front wave and rear wave, and potentially loosing output. Plus there is a strong chance you would have some cancellation issue.
