It’s been four years since I last wrote a subwoofer review for CAE, so it was great to hear from Ben asking me to get back at it. I actually started writing product reviews for CAE back in February 1996 and continued adding new review analysis technology until the last review in August 2006. If you hung on to your back issues of the CAE printed version (print is dead, at least that’s what Egon said), then you know that these reviews made use of the latest test equipment and software, including the LinearX LMS analyzer, LinearX LEAP 5 CAD software, and the infamous and very expensive Klippel analyzer. Since then I’ve added a new toy, the Linsten Inc. SoundCheck audio analyzer, which I use for distortion analysis in Test Bench loudspeaker reviews I do as editor of Voice Coil magazine (Voice Coil is a magazine for loudspeaker manufacturers).
