Recently, I let my girlfriend borrow my SLR camera, wasn't a exspensive one, but lately there's been some drama going on and her mom supposedly "broke" it.

Now I don't know whether to tell my parents, or my brother who owns the camera, or just wait.

My teacher recommended that I go send her a letter via, regiestered mail.

That way she has to sign it.

Not sure man. Kind of a tough situation. Personally I would ask for the broken camera back...To make sure it is indeed broken, and to see if repairs are possible...

If they refuse...Call the cops.

But I asked one of my close friends to ask her brother (whom who dislikes me) to get it back.

But before he even asked the queston, his mom said "Don't ask for his camera."

Uncertain at this point.

They're refusing to give you back your personal property. It's theft. Not sure on the value of the camera but it might even be grand theft in your state and a felony. I think just having a cop go to their door will help either way.

Her mom is crazy, litterally.

Their dad called the cops on her three times for different reasons.

She constantly accused him of cheating on her, and then she broke their chandelier.

I didn't lend it, my brother is good friends with them too.

I was borrowing it and then she wanted to take pictures.

It's not her fault, her mom and dad are extremely self-righteous for they know what is all good and mighty for their children.

If this is what actually happened ^^^^^^^.

I'd ask her to give the camera back, if she refuses tell her you will be calling the cops.

Tell her that you have saved the text messages she sent you and you'll be showing them to the cops as proof that she has your property.

If the cops don't do anything to help, I'd probably help myself to something of hers that carries the same value and I'd tell her what I did to her face (word against word, no record of proof).

If she doesn't give the camera back you're probably screwed.

You could take her to court, but even if she shows up and she's ordered to give the property back or XXX amount of cash there's nothing making her follow through after she leaves the courtroom.

Shitty situation, her mom sounds like a cunt.. it is indeed only a camera though and if this is stressing you out a lot say "fuck it" and let the camera go.. Be sure to not drag out the situation because you are mad about the drama between you and the chick and not mad about the camera.
