Posted January 16, 201114 yr Seems like the spam bots have gotten 'smarter'. I've seen a smaller forum literally flooded by spam and it made it impossible to be read. Whenever you see a spam post, please report it so we can take care of it. Thanks !
January 16, 201114 yr Wait, is this why my post count keeps going down??? LLC... I'll report if I see anything.
January 17, 201114 yr Admin Thank you Adrian for making the topic. Like I mentioned somewhere else on here, there are a couple hundred a day now, and it takes time to sift through the real accounts that did not validate and the spam accounts. But yes, them seem to have advanced some, Invision is working on it and Mark will be taking a peak at it shortly. We have a great mod team and a member base that gives a crap, so we are not in crisis mode and I am on a lot, and our super mods are not limited. So we are prepared for this, and we are going to working on it as to how and why so many accounts are getting through the initial steps. As I see it, there are only so many IP's and when I ban 100+ a day...
January 19, 201114 yr at roughly 100 ip's a day, it would takes years to block them, unless you're doing cidr ranges anyway, work for a webhosting company, we come across this often. IP.board has decent internal spam controls that look for post flooding/login attempt fails/email harvesting and auto-blocks them. You may also want to put in some sort of Captcha to help block the new spam registrations.
