Posted June 26, 201114 yr I'm going to be pushing 3300 rms in a 5.3l 2002 Chevy Avalanche. I've heard all the great reviews on Mechmans products but its a bit pricey. What h.o Alternator and battery do u guys recommend that won't break the bank. The system is only gonna be a daily driver.
June 26, 201114 yr Any good H.O alternator is going to cost you a few hundred dollhairs. You're probably going to spend around $900 or so on a good alt and a couple of batteries if you're buying new.
June 26, 201114 yr Author What did they pirce you at?$450 for mechmans Alternator and $260 for an Xs 3400 battery.
June 26, 201114 yr That is their price. Alot of people really like Mechman and their are some that do not. IMO if you go cheap on an alternator it probably will not last long.
June 26, 201114 yr Author What did they pirce you at?Ok originally my Alternator is 105 amps is a 270 necessary for 3300 rms watts?
June 26, 201114 yr Pretty much, your vehicle uses a good bit already and you're going to put an extra 230amp + load on the electrical system.
June 26, 201114 yr More when it comes to electrical is ALWAYS better, its easier to buy one large alternator, instead of buying a smaller one and say "shit this isn't enough" and have to sell that smaller one (and probably lose money) to buy a larger one.
June 26, 201114 yr I know he would get though! Seriously though, I think a big ho alt in the 250-270 range and a couple of big batteries would be the best route.
June 26, 201114 yr this is getting blown WAY out of proportion...Get your setup installed, THEN monitor and measure voltage drop, quit playing the speculation or guessing game. When you see your voltage dropping below 13v more often then not when jamming WHILE driving, then get a 2nd batt back there from XS Power.IF your voltage is still dropping below 13v WHILE driving, get an alt around 180A, but no lower from DC Power or Mechman.
