Posted July 6, 201114 yr This may be something extremely simple and I may have just wasted my time by making this video, but I'm a little stumped as to what my problem is. I saved myself a lot of typing and you guys a lot of reading by just making a video. Give it a look and tell me what you think!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXu_Jx9_xKATook forever to upload the damn video.
July 6, 201114 yr I did not actually see you having a ground going from your batteries to your frame ???Engine to frame ??? Or a upgraded ground from your cab to your frame ???
July 6, 201114 yr Author I did not actually see you having a ground going from your batteries to your frame ???Engine to frame ??? Or a upgraded ground from your cab to your frame ???Which battery? When I was talking about the secondary battery I messed up and didn't actually film where it was grounded. But with the starting battery, it is grounded to the frame, and I have the engine block connected to the negative terminal on the battery as opposed to the chassis. And what do you mean cab to frame? July 6, 201114 yr running a ground from your battery post to the engine will give you noise in your system ... not good ...I seen where you was grounded to the body of the fender ... not the frame ...
July 6, 201114 yr Your cab / front cap / fender wells / etc ... have rubber post to prevent vibration ... hence not being good grounding points ... I'm trying to help ...

And what do you mean cab to frame?Big 31. Battery + to Alt fused at the rating of the wire.2. Ground Alt to frame3. Ground Battery to Frame I never seen a ground wire from Starting battery to Secondary battery. But if you ground both batteries to the frame you should be alright. Probably easier to run a ground wire from one battery to the other as opposed to running two wires to the frame. As long as one of the batteries is grounded to the frame that is.
July 6, 201114 yr Author running a ground from your battery post to the engine will give you noise in your system ... not good ...I seen where you was grounded to the body of the fender ... not the frame ...So I should go from the engine to the chassis? And about grounding to the fender.. Why would it still read correct voltage at the grounding point? Could this be causing my problem? And unfortunately I'm upstairs directly above my mom's bedroom and she gets PISSED if a mouse scurries across the floor much less me talking. I'll shoot ya a pm and we can talk tomorrow if you're available.

Yes I think this could be your problem ... and a few other small things ...yes, pm me and we can talk tomorrow ... this will be fine ... you have a AT&T phone ??

July 6, 201114 yr I've made a few minor changes since these pics ... but I will explain everything to you in detail if you like tomorrow on the phone ... like you said, too much to type ...

July 6, 201114 yr Got all new pics for the "Under the Hood" area of my truck on the last page of my build log ...Please check them out ... http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/topic/36627-cablguys-97-chevy-silverado/page__st__135Thanks, Randal ...
July 6, 201114 yr have you checked the voltage on both sides of the fuse? it could be a bad fuse that doesn't look blown. i've had that happen to me once or twice Edited July 6, 201114 yr by ccnncc99
July 6, 201114 yr have you checked the voltage on both sides of the fuse? it could be a bad fuse that doesn't look blown. i've had THE thappen to me once or twiceSame here, had a guy bring his truck recently because his sub amp was going on and off then quit turning on but he had checked his fuse and it looked fine. Sure enough it did look just fine but a quick check with a DMM showed it was open. Being an AGU style fuse I set it on it's end and tapped it with my pocket knife and viola it worked again, the fuse element had came loose on one end. It's funny though, he's not gotten a new fuse yet, LOL.

July 7, 201114 yr question... have you calibrated your Stinger voltmeter? there is a little potentiometer to adjust and dial in the volt meter.. that could be it...
July 7, 201114 yr He is getting the same reading on his dmm at the secondary battery as he is getting at the volt meter.
July 7, 201114 yr Author Worked on it for 2 1/2 hours today and the only thing I managed to do is strip out the negative terminal on the starting battery and drip sweat all over the engine.Oh, Shizz:http://s742.photobucket.com/albums/xx69/burke_sellers/?action=view¤t=2011-07-06_22-46-38_351.mp4
July 7, 201114 yr Author have you checked the voltage on both sides of the fuse? it could be a bad fuse that doesn't look blown. i've had that happen to me once or twiceWell the wire between the two batteries isn't fused.. I checked the fuse going to the alternator and it's fine.
July 7, 201114 yr This may be very irrelevant but when I was running a second battery in my car; once I would go down the road the voltage at the 2nd batt would drop down into th 12's. If I turn on the air/headlights to put strain on the car it would jump back up to the 14's. Very weird.Think it could be something with the 2nd batt? Put the DMM on the positive wire that goes from your 1st batt to 2nd and use a different ground and see if it will read 14+.
July 7, 201114 yr Author Grounded good on the frame / engine / fenderwells ???My wire was literally about a cm too short to ground at the place you recommended.. I have to either find another ground that would be as sufficient or order more wire. I'll take a better look tomorrow. I was so pissed/tired/drenched I couldn't even look at the truck.
July 7, 201114 yr Wish you was closer ... I have several 0g jumpers (about 1 to 3 ft long) collecting dust in my storage room ...Go to your local welding supply shop ...
