Alright guys so iv got ideas floating around in my head that i cant just ignore. My first idea was selling my 12" bl and getting a 15" zcon for my civic, but then iv been thinking and im curious as to how cool it would be to have 3 10" smaller powered subs facing up and porting back in the trunk. Maybe like 3 12" dcons or fi x's. Would 3 10's off around 1200 watts be louder then my 1 12 off the same power? its almost triple the cone area and would be so cool to pop the trunk to 3 dcons or something simular haha :). Or would i just be better off going with 1 15" zcon on about 2200 wats, if i did that then i would need a bigger alt bigger wire and so forth. How much louder if any would the 15" zcon be compared to 3 10's? would it be worth it to get the bigger alt and zcon or will it be a pretty big upgrade to go with 3 10's after my 1 12" fi bl? any input on this would be great because i searched 3 10's and theres really not much info on this subject.

There's just WAY too many variables to know for certain, it's all about the installation. I personally like the idea of several kick ass lower powered subs on a decent little amp. I think three 10" DCON's or Fi X's would be plenty loud enough and sound fantastic, but then I'm not into lots of SPL so my tastes and goals may not fit yours. I do like my music loud from time to time, but my sister's single 12 DCON on it's 300wrms for example, would be enough for me on most occasions. I don't need anything wig splitting, earth shaking, or otherwise gaining for competition, so again I say that IMO three 10's would be great but my idea of loud enough and yours are likely much different.

Aside from impedance issues you should be louder.

That's with a solid box and install of course.

Yes i totally see your points and i too am into sound quality. Im just looking to get a little louder while maintaining that sq on lower power which is why im looking into the dcons or x's. I love my bl and all its been through but theres always that bug to go a little bigger and yet not break the bank too much haha, iv found out that its pretty trick to get a trunk car loud without doing so lol. And im loving the idea of 3 10's just didnt know if it will be any louder then my current setup so i know if its even worth it because iv never heard 3 10's in a trunk, and it would be an aero ported box made to specs of whichever sites subwoofers

Sry to go off topic but i remember you saying your bl didnt play the lows like you wanted? well i have mine tuned to 30 hz and it def slams the lows. Maybe try adding another Bl, tuning low, and making a box on the large side of recommended. I was worried after reading your posts, but mine hits the low note on put on by Young Jeezy just like i was hoping, shakes everything in my truck :woot:

thats great man glad you like it, its just iv had 12's my whole stereo venture and im just thinking of maybe doing something different this time change it up a little bit and the idea of 3 10's is sounding pretty cool with those interchangable aero ports

If you have the room and volume I'd go with cone area over power.

Your not the only one whose thought about going with a whole bunch of cone area and lesser power :D

Haha yea its just sounding pretty fun to do and im sure it will be alot louder with 30inches of cone area compared to 12" on same or a little more power. Just having difficulties on how i would wire up 3 10's on my aq2200 if i were to go with 3 10" subs around 300-400 watts each

here is what i would want the box to kinda look like, having the subs mounted on top with maybe 3 aero ports on the front facing the license plate

edit: The subs will be in like a triangle shape mounted on top so kinda like it

wiring isn't hard. just get dual 2's and wire them to 1.33 and keep the gain down

Only one way to find out. I vote three Dcons. You can wire to 1.33ohms. So you would see slightly less power than 1200wrms. If you could do a fourth you could wire to 1 ohm. Either way...

Haha as much as id like to put 4 dcons in my trunk i just dont see how id fit them. 3 10's i can get a box that would fit if i use aero ports. So i could wire then to 1.33 hmmm well i think id be putting out a little more then 1200 cuz my amp does 1200 @ 2ohms and 2200 @ 1ohm, i think that might be too much power for 3 dcons?? if i do 3 10's id want then to be no more then $150 a piece cuz i wanna sell my current 12" bl to fund at least half of it

im thinking if i have to wire to 1.33 ohms which would give me around 1600-1800wrms then i should look into some good 600 watt subs for around 120-150 each. man i wish ssa or fi made one haha. too bad the dcons arnt 200 more watts lol.

I wouldn't put so much emphasis on power handling. You could just get SSD's if it was really a concern, although that would be a little over budget

well i dont think 3 dcons can handle a 1.3ohm load from a aq2200 and i wouldnt really wanna risk it, also i did look into the ssd's but there power rating is at 1000watts now which kinda sucks because now almost all there subs are 1000 except the btl and the x

No such thing as under powering a sub. If you set your gains reasonably the DCON's would be just fine as well. I'm unsure if they're still working on it or not, but I remember hearing about a 600W line called the FCON

  • Author

its not that they will be underpowered but they would be getting around 600 watts each and im sure if id feel comfortable giving them that much for daily, I was looking into the fcons but it will probably be a bit longer before any release dates. I was looking at the sa-10's which are 600 watts, how would 3 of those stack up in a 3.6 cuft box tuned to maybe 32-33 hz with a couple aero ports

Sundown

  • Author

Haha sweet i like your straight up answer ;) This is going to be a fun build i can already feel it, iv always wanted to do 10's somehow and i think 3 is going to be awsome!!

  • Author

how do those stack up against the sa-10's? Havnt really heard much about skar, are they more sq or more spl cuz i know sundowns are made to sound good but i know 3 10's will be louder then what i have now

this sounds like my build im tryin to do :WTFBubble: im a newbe but im gonna sit back and take notes cuz we must have the same mind or idea becuz i have the same plan to put it in the back tray were my 6x9 are a 95 SS impala facing up i got alota room i wanted 3 subs but i cave'd in to just running 2 10s instead 3 12 like i plan'd re 5000w amp I AM A have to check back and see this build...

Haha thats sick man, so how do you like the 3 SA's? Do they hit lows pretty good and have some good output? mine would all be facing up with some aero ports shooting to the license plate, Yea right now im just in the thinking stage and but iv pretty much made up my mind about the 3 10"s just need to save up funds for an alt and then i can get a build log going, gonna have a lil fun with this one :)

according to an spl-labs meter it peaks it 25hz and will drop to 21-22hz no problem. i haven't gotten it on a tl yet so i'm not sure what kind of numbers it's doing yet
