I did some research and here's what i'm thinking of putting in my grand prix.

Headunit - Pioneer DEH-P7700MP

6x9's - Pioneer 5-way TS-A6991R 460w (80rms) or TS-D901P 350w rev series (60rms)

6 1/2's - Pioneer TS-D161R 260w (60rms)

Subs - 2x P312D4 1000w (500w rms) was thinking T2's but that's overkill

Amp for my high's - P4004 100w x4 (gets more but don't need it)

Amp for my subs - P8002 (should net me 500w rms to each sub)

Anything you'd change? Reasoning? Box suggestions?

Edit: upon further research a P2002 should net me near 60w per speaker instead of using a 4 channel P4004

Ditch the 6x9's and use an unamped 6.5" for rear fill if you need it.

Allow a larger budget for a quality 6.5" component set up front with a nice amp.

Get whatever subs sound good to you ... we can make suggestions day in and day out, but it's going to boil down to what your ears like, not ours ... as we don't have to deal with your stereo every day. I suggest you listen to as many component sets as possible as well, just to hear the general differences in sound.

Any suggestion on the amp for upfront? or just something with more power like a P4004/8004?

TS-C160R something like those are what your recommending for upfront?

Also you mentioned ditching the 6x9's...any reason why? Those 2 got pretty nice reviews.

Seems like you're pretty set on the Pioneer speakers / RF amps :)

Pioneer TS-C160R + Rockford Fosgate P3002 would likely work.

If you wanted rear fill, the TS-D161R should do the trick.

And the 6x9's - I don't know what your ultimate goal is with the stereo, but the 6x9's won't help you achieve any sort of good sound. The only 6x9's that I've ever sort of liked were made by Infinity, other then that, you're better off without them.

are you looking for a good sounding system with tight bass or boomy bass? Let me know and I'll see what I can put together for you. Also, need your budget too.

i dont know much about car stereo setups but my rear's are 6x9's so how would i get 6 1/2's in there? and no i'm not really set on pioneer high's...just seem to be good speakers from reviews i've read. your saying to run the components with the p3002 by itself and leave the rear's unamped? i could just run another P8002 and that'll supply all 4 high's with plenty of wattage.

im not looking for a high end system but a more than average system. i listen to everything but country..but mostly would be rap & hip/hop. so as far as bass goes, probably boomy bass. id like to set a limit of $2-3k.

Well, for $3k...

Pioneer P9 DEX/DEQ combo

PG MS1000

Adire Extremis's

ID horn bodies

IA 20.1

2 12" SI Magnums

Would be my choices :)
