Posted January 18, 200619 yr well I was gonna wait till I got my second power acousik A3000DB so I can tell you how it sounds w/ some real power but I'm getting antsy an wanna show off.So w/o further adou...box in the makinganotherbracingheres the speaker hole and hole for interchangable portand final assemblyAnd for the grand finally!here is a 4"x8" port tuned to 45hz to see what this can do off of the little bit of power however now one of the hurrican nuts came loose from the back and got stuck but I just fixed that today and now w/ some liquid nails holding them in place I'm hoping it will work. but now I have to make a new port since I kinda broke this one trying to get it offBTW here's what you've all been waiting for some excursion porn!!! http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos/Sou...ter/rls12.5.wmv
January 18, 200619 yr x2 on the nice build, when you sit in the car with the trunk closed and music playing.......... how is she?. and what are you compareing the sound to
January 18, 200619 yr i can tell u one thing he will say 4 sure......VERY CLEAN SOUNDING....U CANT HEAR ANYTYPE OF DISTORTIONthats one of the reasons why i personally want to buy the rl-s subs80
January 18, 200619 yr I hope you know building a wedge enclosure with a slot port will change the tuning when you get closer to the back since its not equal distances.
January 19, 200619 yr Author To answer the first question she's almost a wisper compared to my 2 ts-w3004spl's but oh so sweet. I think that will change w/ my second amp to strap.Oh and no I didn't know about the tuning w/ a wedge, so what can I do to figure that out or do I just have to stay clear of the back of the enclosure. if you didn't notice this box is designed w/ an interchangable port and in the first picture of it in my car it does have the "sealed" plate in, I just put together the 45hz port so I can see what it sounds like, I think I'm gonna try about a 16-24 sq inch port tuned to like 25-30 hz w/ an L bend in it for more fequent use but I think I'll keep it sealed most of the time if I'm saticfied w/ the sound off of more power, which I think I will be The box is at about 3 1/2 cubes w/ driver and brace I estimate.
January 19, 200619 yr You can do a wedge ported, you just need to run the port on the bottom and let it go up the back of the enclosure so its even.Or you can get some round ports, like i did
January 20, 200619 yr I think the round port wouldn't really help with the tuning prediction because the top and bottom of the outer circle of the port would be different lengths from the back slanted wall too. I would guess that you could run the port with the same slant as the back of the box and then measure from the center of the portslot (from bottom to top) which would give you a better estimate of length (just like calculating volume in a wedge box). Sweet box but with a 50lbs driver I would have went with a double baffle (or at least double thick mounting ring) the bracing looks sweet. If I ever buy an rls my box will be rediculously overbuilt and heavy as hell 1.25" everywhere and bracing all over the damn place.good work, do you really think you need more power? that sub looks like it was moving pretty well. Were you running into clipping?
January 20, 200619 yr Author well since that is at 20 hz and w/ it sealed it hardly moves at all, literaly at anything above 25 hz and if it can take it I'm gonna give it. Plus w/ my research on this driver from the demo ring, it looks as though this driver comes alive w/ 1200+ power so why not do the next cheapest power gain, add another A3000DB for 300 bucks off the net? its not like anything else thats like $1000+ which I'll do later for better SQ.About the box not being built up, I think I'm about to redo it anyway, maybe not right away but in the near future w/... okay a double baffle wouldn't be a bad idea but better glue and better interchangable port design. It turned out to be the best box so far but for the driver I've already found some flaws. Man I cant wait to put some power to this beast ( refined beast that is )
January 20, 200619 yr u should try it in a 4th order bandpass....the output is crazywith the power u have omg..u will be shocked at how loud it can get80
