Posted November 9, 201113 yr Inside:Outside:As you can see from the inside picture, the sides have openings, and there is about a half inch gap between the heatsinks and the top panel.I'm considering a new enclosure that would sit over the top panel, it would likely cover up all the heatsinks.I know the sides being open will help, but since heat rises, and the enclosure would be directly above the heatsinks, think I'll run into any issues?
November 9, 201113 yr Fans would be nice ...Yeah maybe a push/pull setup. Especially with those 110+ days.
November 9, 201113 yr What about some crossflow or PC fans. I'm thinking crossflow would work better cus it is flatter.Or do you not want fans.
November 9, 201113 yr Author I'd rather not add fans, just more shit to deal with. As stupid as it sounds if that's the case then I'll go with a smaller enclosure and have it not cover up the heat sinks.Let's say I did add fans, do you use a relay from the remote turn on and connect that to the fans?
November 9, 201113 yr I'm just going to hook me up a switch in the dash so i can turn them on and off when i want to ... giving a demo or competition with fans running wouldn't be a good thing ...
November 9, 201113 yr It looks like you have a bit of room in the top right corner, how much space do you have there? You're trying to get a icon 15 or 18 sealed?
November 9, 201113 yr parts express I snagged some really GOOD fans with good amount of leverage air being pushed.
November 9, 201113 yr We can also do something to allow airflow in between the box and the false floor.
November 9, 201113 yr I just have my fans connected to a switch on the dash and then connected to my battery. Personally I wouldn't run that without fans, but that's not saying much. I've never had an amplifier that wasn't cooled somehow by external fans. You know man; it's always that "well it could be just fine.... or it could be not okay at all". Why risk it? You'd have to do more work later anyways if it goes south and your amps keep popping into protect!
November 9, 201113 yr We can also do something to allow airflow in between the box and the false floor. Yeah, put the box on some feet!
November 9, 201113 yr We can also do something to allow airflow in between the box and the false floor. Yeah, put the box on some feet! That's what I was thinkin! We can make it pretty for you. Let me know what you decide on Stefan and we will make it work.
November 9, 201113 yr Relay + fans = best option. If you have a Micro Center near you, I picked up some fans for about 3-5 bucks 120mm fans. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0367980orhttp://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0325743andhttp://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3020762&filterName=Category
November 9, 201113 yr Author Thanks everyone. We can also do something to allow airflow in between the box and the false floor. Yeah, put the box on some feet! That's what I was thinkin! We can make it pretty for you. Let me know what you decide on Stefan and we will make it work.If we could figure something out that would be cool. Leaning towards the dcons again, you never see them around, and the cone area will be nice.
November 16, 201113 yr Leave a minimum of 2" above the amps for proper ventilation.Amp rack looks great!
