So I just finished up my box today, upon installing the subs in the box I slipped with the drill and punctured the surround. It's a decent sized slit, maybe 3/4 to an inch; it runs diagonal. The subs are Fi SSDs with foam surrounds. I've been searching google for a bit now for the best advesive to use and keep seeing amazing goop and rtv silicone being suggested. Which is better? Would some type of epoxy work? And should I put a piece of fabric or duct tape on the back the slit, with whichever adhesive/ sealer?

I was just looking through my garage and found some black silicone adhesive sealant. Is that rtv silicone? and would it work as well or better than the others?

epoxy should work

Use amazing goop to fix it not epoxy it is not flexible enough

Agreed, you need something that will stay pliable.

ok so amazing goop it is... how about the fabric or duct tape of the back of the wound, is that a good idea?

Just use amazing goop in the blue tube.

amazing goop works for rip in sub surround?

amazing goop works for rip in sub surround?

Yes.

Ill give it shot seems sturdy so far let it cure for 24hours. Test it should i free air the sub? Running alot of power dont want a major rip

running the sub free air is potentially dangerous because the air in the box acts to dampen the excursion of cone. generally speaking, on the same amount of power, a speaker in an enclosure will oscillate with a lower amplitude than when played free-air.

with a tear in the surround i would just make sure the repair looks acquitted. nothing you can do but recone it if the repair fails further.

Ok. Good advice learned something.
