thats the link to the pic with all the specs (measurements) on it

i also included a pic with thee port design, i dont know the dimensions of the inner piece of MDF because i cant take the sub out (screws are in frigging TIGHT), just want some more info on that as well

yup you are both correct, just a small piece of mdf covering half the opening of the port.. :|

now you probably see why i came here kuz i have no idea what he was trying to achieve lmao

now, any useful info?

Give us the dimensions of the enclosure, including the port opening (the whole opening including where the wood is covering) and port length.

seems like my post died :( lol

help guys, still need answers here

I can't really understand your picture. Pretend the wood cover isn't there, how big is the opening? Height and width?

  • Author

lol, i figured that would happen

without the cover, the port is 25 1/2" long and 5 1/4" wide

its 16" deep on the outer side and 11 3/4" deep on the inside (closer to the sub)

i put the specs into the RE audio box calc and the port frequency came out to like 40Hz, im assuming thats what the cover was for

then again, im still only a newb, let me know what more info you might need :)

btw thank you very much for helping this far

  • Author

guys? lol

Why not build a new box and tune a bit lower ? 40Hz is a bit high for daily listening .

  • Author

my thoughts exactly

im wondering if the port cover lowers the tuning at all though

because i would put that in as a temp fix while i get the amps and upgrade my mids and highs

wt out the cover i got like 28hz???

http://reaudio.com/box.php

just plug in your data to that and change the port.

I got lost after the width said 32 then 35?? does the box look like ___/ ?

  • Author

yeah, that's how the box is shaped

The port isn't L shaped like im used to seeing, its shaped more like this:

....._________

|...|..............|

|...|..|...........|

|___|_______|

(pretend the dots arent there lmao

i put the data in and got 40 on the dot, but im sure it isnt accurate

this is what i put:

Box Width: 35"

Box Height: 27"

Top Depth: 16.75"

Bottom Depth: 16.75"

Port Width: 5.25"

Thats more of the box design without the ___/ shape lol (port design isn't correct though so idk what it's tuned to)

shit, the port design came out fucked up

if you look at another one of my posts on photobucket i lined out roughly how it's shaped

trippy.giftrippy.giftrippy.gif

is how i feel trying to re-engineer this box lol.

I got that it was like 6.xx cubes. which is big enough.

I guess when it comes to the port, lets assume the person who built it knew what they were talking about.

How does it sound to you would be the biggest thing at this point.

Is it not playing lows well enough, does the sub bottom out at high volume?(doubting)

But the whole port thing comes down to what you want for the most part. 25hz-40hz range isn't going to damage the sub.

The power you send the sub is going to make the difference.

  • Author

lmao i know, total brain meltdown x_x

finally got some answers though so thanks a bunch :)

i havent been able to afford an amp for it yet so ill just have to wait and see how it plays, if it isnt hitting those lows the way i like (obvious reason why i went for an 18") then ill have to get another one built

all i was really concerned about was damaging the sub with the cover (will try both and see how i like them)

i intend on getting a Planet Audio BB2400.1D for it so that should be right on the RMS mark, should be getting it in about a month or so lol

the box seems to be designed very well, all the cuts are super clean and stuff so im assuming he knew what he was doing

  • Author

still wouldnt mind some more answers guys

anyone else wanna chip in?

You'll know for sure when you get your amp and try it out. Try some test tones with and without the "cover."

  • Author

alright man, thanks a bunch

looks like ill have to be all scientific and do a test with both port in and out on the same tones when i get my amp lol

I would just build a new box and then you will know what you have. Cause just because the box was built well doesn't mean it was designed well and will sound good

  • Author

alrighty

ill give this one a shit when i get the amp

if i dont like it then new box here i come i guess lol
