I have a question about ohms. a duel 4ohm L 7 and a duel 2ohm L 7, Iam running series parell. what is the ohm load at the amp?

You are running a d2 and a d4 wired together?

  • Author

yes its a job and thats the subs he brought me to work with

You need to give more info on how each sub is wired up by it's self and how are they wired up together?

Or is it that you are trying to figure out the wiring options?

each is wired in series then in parell with each other

Probably somewhere around 6ohm.

But bro, at my shop, customer brings us that shit, we send him packing.

each is wired in series then in parell with each other

d4 in series = 8 ohms

d2 in series = 4 ohms

The 8 and 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2.666 ohms

thanks for your help, i tryed to explain to the guy that its not the way to go.

If the amp is 1 ohm stable then the better option would be:

d4 in parallel = 2 ohms

d2 in series = 4 ohms

The 2 and 4 ohms wired in parallel = 1.333 ohms

each is wired in series then in parell with each other

d4 in series = 8 ohms

d2 in series = 4 ohms

The 8 and 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2.666 ohms

You are indeed right, I was mistaken. Good job. :)

I dont think this should be a problem, it's the same woofer (or load), just different coil arrangement, what the amplifier will see is the final ohm load.

d2 in series = 4 ohms

No problem bro, it happens, I had to brush up back my series/parallel formula..hhahahha

but wont the d2 play a little louder than the d4?

but wont the d2 play a little louder than the d4?

No matter how you wire it they won't be getting the same power.

I have not personally tested this, but I dont think it would, as the amp will see the total ohm load, however, let's wait and hear from one of the tech's here, am sure they can give a more precise answer.

You could be correct.

You could be correct.

I am correct ;)

You could be correct.

And he is correct. I'm not on the tech team, clearly, but it's circuit analysis 101.

V = IR

P = IV

P = I^2 R

The d2 and the d4 coils will receive a different amount of current due to their difference in resistance. That causes a change in power.

Yes you are right ! hahah rick you too ...

The only downside to this is you will reach the thermal limits of the D2 driver before the D4 driver if they share the same internal air volume. You will reach the thermal and mechanical limits of the D2 driver before the D4 driver if they are in seperate air volumes.

This will make it nearly impossible to optimize maximum output without damage for your customer...

Don't do it.
