Posted December 15, 201212 yr I have a question about ohms. a duel 4ohm L 7 and a duel 2ohm L 7, Iam running series parell. what is the ohm load at the amp?
December 15, 201212 yr You need to give more info on how each sub is wired up by it's self and how are they wired up together?Or is it that you are trying to figure out the wiring options? Edited December 15, 201212 yr by StreetLegal
December 15, 201212 yr Probably somewhere around 6ohm.But bro, at my shop, customer brings us that shit, we send him packing.
December 15, 201212 yr each is wired in series then in parell with each otherd4 in series = 8 ohmsd2 in series = 4 ohmsThe 8 and 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2.666 ohms
December 15, 201212 yr Author thanks for your help, i tryed to explain to the guy that its not the way to go.
December 15, 201212 yr If the amp is 1 ohm stable then the better option would be:d4 in parallel = 2 ohmsd2 in series = 4 ohmsThe 2 and 4 ohms wired in parallel = 1.333 ohms
December 15, 201212 yr each is wired in series then in parell with each otherd4 in series = 8 ohmsd2 in series = 4 ohmsThe 8 and 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2.666 ohmsYou are indeed right, I was mistaken. Good job.
December 15, 201212 yr I dont think this should be a problem, it's the same woofer (or load), just different coil arrangement, what the amplifier will see is the final ohm load.

Good job. No problem bro, it happens, I had to brush up back my series/parallel formula..hhahahha
December 15, 201212 yr but wont the d2 play a little louder than the d4?No matter how you wire it they won't be getting the same power.
December 15, 201212 yr I have not personally tested this, but I dont think it would, as the amp will see the total ohm load, however, let's wait and hear from one of the tech's here, am sure they can give a more precise answer.
December 15, 201212 yr but wont the d2 play a little louder than the d4?No matter how you wire it they won't be getting the same power. You could be correct.
December 15, 201212 yr You could be correct. And he is correct. I'm not on the tech team, clearly, but it's circuit analysis 101. V = IRP = IVP = I^2 RThe d2 and the d4 coils will receive a different amount of current due to their difference in resistance. That causes a change in power.

December 15, 201212 yr The only downside to this is you will reach the thermal limits of the D2 driver before the D4 driver if they share the same internal air volume. You will reach the thermal and mechanical limits of the D2 driver before the D4 driver if they are in seperate air volumes. This will make it nearly impossible to optimize maximum output without damage for your customer...
December 15, 201212 yr But bro, at my shop, customer brings us that shit, we send him packing.OP, do this.
