I bought a dcon 12 before I switched cars. I want to put the sub in a ported box, the site recomends 1.75 cubes but has anyone had success going smaller? Reason being I need to put things in the trunk from time to time as well as have access to the spare tire.

If need be I was considering reconing the sub to a 10, but I'd really prefer not too as the sub has never been used.

If it matters the sub would be recieving 350 rms.

Thanks!

If you have to go smaller than recommended, why not try sealed?

Mike is right, if a ported enclosure at the minimum specified by the manufacturer is still too large then why not try it sealed, or sell the 12 and buy a 10 but for god's sake don't go and recone a brand spanking new sub it just doesn't make any sense to do so.

What are your measurements? You may be able to squeeze it in there if you used an aero port instead of a slot and got the shape right. If not then that 12 should sell fairly easily and just buy a 10. You may take a slight loss on the sale but that would be cheaper and better than shelling out $85 + shipping on a 10" recone and frame and tearing into a perfectly new sub. Hell the recone cover's 58% of the cost of a new 10" sub by itself.

Get us some measurements and pictures of your trunk, we may be able to help you fit a ported in there for the 12 and still have room to carry stuff and access to the spare.

You could squeeze down to 1.5 if need be.

from all the advice I've read, people seem to say the dcon isnt really worth putting in a sealed box.

People have said even .25 cubes can really change the sound of a box, will 1.5 really be okay? I might try the 12 if I can do 1.5 cubes plus an areo port.

Apparently my trunk is around 15 cubes, but the issue is being able to move the box or fit certain things in.

you could remove the spare and build the box in the spare tire well. maybe throw the spare back in the trunk when your going on long trips?

I have a terminal cup on my box, if needed I can just take the box out and fill the trunk, empty the trunk and put the sub back in, not sure if this work for you. By the way, 15 cubic feet of trunk space is a lot, what car is this going into?
