August 18, 201510 yr I should clarify, it isn't like I am using 4000psi lol. I have a really wide tip on a really shitty 2400psi unit and stand back. For a power reference, I use it to clean my hands and feet/legs off when done too.Still too high, and even dumber for using it on your skin. Anything over 30psi and you can create an embolism. What is 30psi at 10'? I realize I have a lot more than that, but if it hurt I wouldn't use it on my body. Was trying to relay how my washer is setup. If you're ten feet away, you're defeating the purpose of a pressure washer. It's now pointless.
August 18, 201510 yr You're fucking nuts. You're telling me you do paint cirrection, yet you use a pressure washer on your vehicle? That's equivalent to you spending an hour prepping for a meal and then cooking it via a microwave.Pressurized water, even at low pressure, can and will damage the paint. You are effectively etching the surface, not to mention blasting contaminants and water into the paint. You'd rather rub the salt off? No way. You'd rather blast the salt into your paint? You don't rub salt unkess you're using just water. Rinse the loose shit with a hose, then wash with car wash. The detergents encapsulate dirt, salt, and contaminants, and the rinse washes away. It's that simple. Then why does hand washing seem to scratch the paint?Anytime you touch the paint, you scratch it. Washing it . Will scratch and degrade it. There's nothing you can do to stop that. All you can try to do is lessen the damage and protect it inbetween cleanings.Rinsing is better than rubbing. Once you add pressure than you can say whether you are rinsing or rubbing the lesser pressure is better. At the same pressure I'll take a rinse over rub any day as by default you are not pushing the dirt around. You can't remove dirt and contaminants by rinsing alone. Clay performs the same way as washing. It removes contaminants by encapsulating them in the clay. You need a mechanical action to capture them though. It's the same with washing. You need the mechanical scrub to loosen the dirt and encapsulate it within the detergent bubble, then rinse away. Washing your car without scrubbing is akin to claying your car by just setting the clay on it and picking it up.
August 18, 201510 yr Slow week.Day 2 of my vacation and first day of school. It's going too fast for me.

Then if I need to really get the underbody or rims I can just move in closer. My pressure washer also allows me to mix detergent with the water for a wash and I can just remove the nozzle when I want to rinse.
August 18, 201510 yr Also I don't think any winter is as tough on paint as MN.As far as I know we are just about the only state in the area that still uses only salt and sand. Even Michigan is using a mix at this point I think. MN refuses to cut the salt and/or sand with anything no matter the cost, so far.We spend almost double per capita on our roads than other great lake states. Edited August 18, 201510 yr by dem beats
August 18, 201510 yr Perhaps on the undercarriage, but it's not an issue on paint. The salt naturally erodes with water and the residue is washed away by the detergent. It's simple. My winters are no different than yours minus a coupke extra weeks of snow. I know there is no need fir a pressure washer. You guys don't know salt, lol. Crystal build up on your paint is not unusual. When you have 3 weeks that it is too cold to wash (car washes here close below 10F usually) and then get to wash you will get old and frumpy waiting for salt to erode with only water. Higher pressure >>> rubbing.

Washing your car without scrubbing is akin to claying your car by just setting the clay on it and picking it up.You can absolutely remove dirt and contaminants by rinsing alone. The worst thing you can do is rub. Dabbing is 1000% better, but I have no patience to dab away dirt on my car. I treat paint like I would fabric. What is bad for one is bad for the other. Obviously the paint is a lot harder. Some general rules with removing stains from clothes are: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER rub and use a lot of fluid to flush it. I treat a car the same way. One other huge benefit of a pressure washer is the operator interface. Pull a trigger and get water. Not only is it easy to turn on, but very directional where you want it. Pressure is also easily controlled by distance.
August 18, 201510 yr You need the mechanical scrub to loosen the dirt and encapsulate it within the detergent bubble, then rinse away.If you changed mechanical scrub to a force to loosen the dirt then sure. Now the question is what is more damaging a force that instantly washes away that dirt or one where you then slide it over the rest of the paint. It is the pre-clean and rinse stages where I find the pressure washer the most helpful. The rinse is for convenience, the pre-wash is the most gentle way to remove the majority of the garbage you are trying to get off.
August 18, 201510 yr I'm not going to argue this any further. I can easily, but I don't have the time.
August 18, 201510 yr It's not an argument. No one disagrees with the fact that it's wear on the paint. Its just about how much work is worth a certain result.
August 18, 201510 yr We finally got sone rain, but I'm still afraid to cut my grass.Been raining here for a couple of days now, have a little break ATM..I think it is suppose to rain up till Friday hopefully it will boost my watermelons and peppers before the frost gets here.
August 19, 201510 yr On the topic of power washers/ My power washer will not idle down when I'm not spraying. It just run's wide open and if you shut it off it back fires loudly. I've resorted to manually pushing the carb closed to bring the RPMs down.
August 19, 201510 yr I just hire hot chicks to wash my vehicles with their boobs and car wash, works wonders.
