May 3, 201312 yr Admin I'm saddened by this thread.I might try to merge the two together soon. We will see how stable cloudflare is a little longer first.
May 3, 201312 yr Admin made me think way too much. Yeah, engineers tend to do that Hey now, I don't quadruple guess myself.

May 3, 201312 yr Light the charcoal longer, you need a serious fire to get heat. I melted my 1500F gaskets on mine In the firebox I melt silt from the wood into glass regularly

May 3, 201312 yr Make sure the vent holes in the bottom are clear, and don't forget to burp it or you'll loose arm hair/eyebrows. I've thought that a stainless steel basket that fits in the firebox of the Egg and stays in there so I could lift my charcoal out and clean the holes out would be nice. Not exactly a fine mesh basket, but something so I could pick all the charcoal out in one swoop, clean the ash and holes out, then put the still good charcoal back in would be nice. I'm sure high heat cooks would cause issues, but for normal mid range and low temps I think it'd be nice.
May 3, 201312 yr I guest I need to make a bigger fire. I have some more steaks so I'll try it again this weekend.
May 3, 201312 yr Speak of cleaning. What's the best way to get the ash out?Compressed air or shop vac for me.
May 3, 201312 yr The Viking C4 has a removeable fire grate so I just push it out the little door with my hand in a latex glove. Takes about 20 seconds.
May 3, 201312 yr I pull the remainder of the charcoal out, pull the bottom grate up, push the clogged holes out with my finger then scoop out the bottom through the door with the little bent stick tool. It takes all of less than 5 minutes.
May 3, 201312 yr Yep takes me longer to find a grocery bag to catch it in and a glove. I have the tool as well, but find that my hand is faster and gloves are cheap.

May 3, 201312 yr From the breakage weekend Went yesterday on the same track with 3 others riders, 2 in good condition, we lost one after 30 minutes and kept going on the 20 mile course like we were running from the cops. Really cool trip
