Posted June 5, 201312 yr Doing my sq setup, has 2 way components 125 watts each side. Looking for a good sq sub that goes loud but good quality under $300 I will upgrade later to something higher end. So far looking at the image dynamics idq10v3. (500 watts rms) also would a sub 500 watts rms overpower the front stage? From the comps?cheers any reviews on the idq would be good too

June 5, 201312 yr Welcome to SSA What size sub are you looking for ?? 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 ???? and if you are going for "true SQ" ... 500w RMS (if a Class D application) might not be enough to give you adequate dynamics and headroom. Edited June 5, 201312 yr by Cablguy184
June 5, 201312 yr Author I'm looking at a single 10 or 12 inch. The image dynamics I've heard good reviews on and I would definanly use a class d mono amp. Probably give the idq10v3 600 watts rms? I want a good clear sounding woofer but that can play loud( not after spl )

The average competition SQ vehicle usually has no problems putting up anywhere from a 135 to a 150 DB SPL number up on the board along with their SQ score ... Several vehicles compete SQ and SPL, my truck being one of them ...

But I've never heard anything bad about them either. I have a team member that ran the ID components (2 way 6.5" Camellions) and loved them !!! Also, I think he has or had (not sure) a IDQ 10 or 12 and was planning to install it into his truck before he joined our team and switched to the products we have now ... Honnestly, if you are going for more SQ ... I try and find a nice class A/B amplifier to help you with dynamics and headroom ... Just my suggestion

June 5, 201312 yr Doesn't really help to throw out an RMS rating of the sub, it doesn't have anything to do with what you are looking for, and doesn't mean/correlate to anything... Best budget "SQ" sub on the planet right now would be a Parts Express Dayton HO/HF 12 or 15 driver. Less than $150, IIRC...

I understand for some people that compete in "SQ" that having multiple large drivers is beneficial because of the increased output/headroom and less distortion from less cone movement, but I don't believe most people require that for what I consider a "SQ" setup, hence Rick's post asking the OP to define what he really wants. After reading his later posts it appears he just wants a lot of sub output and wants it to sound good, so as I said before just about any driver sold here would suffice. June 6, 201312 yr The image dynamics sub is great, the only limitation being that it won't do 150db... I find it to be a very accurate and transient sub, that being said, I personally prefer more headroom for when I feel the need for bass. It will perform well, but if you love a lot of electronica, or heavy bass music, you might want more output. I know that they can perform, i've heard a fair share of Image Dynamics speakers, and to date they have been responsible for some of the most accurate sounding vehicles I have had the pleasure to listen to. And I read what you posted before you edited your post ... No, my truck is no where near a 150, but I really love that low end kick while driving down the road listening to my country music !!!
June 7, 201312 yr Those or an upgrade. The Dayton Ultimax. Vance did testing and a review on the 12 inch model. It's nearly a perfectly designed driver. Every component is almost perfectly matched. I think parts express has them for around $300-350

June 7, 201312 yr The suspension and BL products are within .1mm which is uncommon among most product. It just goes to show the design effort put into the driver. It has an xmax rating of 21.9mm at 20% distortion which is the standard rating. (20% distortion is inaudible)

June 25, 201312 yr I saw where Dayton Ho's are mentioned. Opinions on them? I love my Dayton HO's. Best sounding subs I've used yet. They aren't the loudest, but man they are smooth. For the price, they are hard to beat. Just depends what you want them to do.
July 9, 201312 yr i am pushing my boss hard to buy a Fi Q or SSD 10" for is rav 4. ive never used the Q but ive used the BL and SP4 and considering how those subs blow away every other sub ive used in the past in volume and SQ i cant even imagine the quality coming out of a Q. id go with a Q (fully loaded of course).
