1200 watts is plenty, have you looked into something like an Orion 1200D or talked to flakko and see what deals he might have on US Amps

yup I talked to him. He gave me a sweet quote for the MD2. I'm going to go with that if the deal still stands in july when I should have the money for em. You think thats too much for em or will it hit them just right?

be smart with the gains, the Merlin is a very strong amp, and it is plenty of power for the RL-ps, think of it this way you will have some headroom and power to spare..

Yeah i'm pretty good with the gains... Probably wouldn't have them much more over halfway. Will be going with a sealed enclosure FYI...

Read the tutorial in the amplifier section.

Just setting the gains at "halfway" does not = half the power ;)

i know it doesn't. I'll probably just set the gains by ear. DMMs= eh...

IDK now lol, I might go with the Opti since it would power them sufficently and I wouldn't have to worry about overpowering them like I would with the MD2. 1000 watts is a lot to give them and doesn't leave much headroom.

meh... I gave my single RL-p a "claimed" 1500W. It survived, the amp didn't though.

I'd do the MD2.

But do they need 1900 watts and would it be much of a difference in terms of performance to 1400 watts?

  • Admin

its not so much about output, it is more so about quality of the amplfier

You think running the US Amps MD2 off a Yellow Top D34+ my 110 A Alt. would be enough to keep me from dimming?

  • Author

I think I'm going to go with the Opti drive 2000D since mike said 2000 watts on the RL-Ps would be overkill and it sits right at home with 700-800 watts. Opti seems perfect with 1600 Watts @ 1 ohm and I probably can find it for $300 shipped which hits me right where I want to be in the wallet.

Now, I'm thinking about running the MD2 LoL. I hear that it is a much better quality amp. But what I want to know is will I be able to run this amp and be able to turn my music up pretty loud and not burn the sub's voice coils up. That question determines what amp I want.
